I've given up on Qantas status. I rarely travel internationally with them anymore and currently not prepared to go through Middle East. So hello Star Alliance. With TK. But this is for a cruise. I am very close to getting a status on Princess to Platinum and with another two cruises planned then to Elite. We have a big cruise coming up next year and doing a very cheapie 2 nighter in Australia to get to that extra status needed. Drinks etc. So I've booked it. Any one else done similar? Princess status is so easy to do so cheaply. One day they will change it.

Thanks @RooFlyer 😉

Free laundry is a good perk as a Princess elite.. about the only decent perk with SilverSea status.
Arriving home with a suitcase full of clean clothes is fun...

I just need to ensure that MrP actually puts his stuff out. He has this mentality it can wait until we get home. Which of course means tons of laundry.

I don’t think that free laundry on Silversea is the only good thing with status. We enjoyed our 7 day and 14 day complimentary cruises.
We did an extra cruise on Silversea when we were at 487 days as we were getting a bit disappointed with the line and wanted to try something different. But decided to take a 14 day cruise with them so we hit the 500 days to get the 14 day complimentary cruise.
Then we tried Crystal which some think is the best. Turns out they both had their strengths and weaknesses. Happy to sail both
Only 1 cruise booked and it is on SS. Now it depends on itinerary. This one calls at Sandakan. One of my patients was one of the 7 survivors of the Death March. I promised him t would get there.

One thing that annoys us old timers is that now people with less days than 100 on RCCL lines can get free laundry from their first day on SS.

Plus 5% discount on a new Silversea cruise once past 100 days.

No, you only need 1VS Day for 5% discount. It jumps to 10% at 250VS - which I had for a few months before being “enhanced” back to 100VS after SS rejigged their SM across RCCL programs…😔. I’ll probably get back there when I hit CC Elite+.

There’s still CX!

If the opportunity arose to do a short VV sailing, I would. I got the SM from VFF to “Blue Extras” (free laundry was the biggy) prior to back to back cruises on VV. But I still need one more sailing to get to “Deep Blue Extras” - $100 bar tab and premium wifi. A shame they pulled out of Oz…😔.

I enjoyed my first ever Med cruise with MSC earlier this year, and have another sailing booked with them to Japan in 2028. Although they don’t sail from or to Aus so I don’t see myself being able to build status with them

In terms of chasing status from here, it seems the most frequent lines out of Australia are Carnival (ex-P&O), RCCL, Princess (circumnavigation), and less frequently Celebrity, NCL, Azamara to the Pacific and NZ. Ponant sails the Kimberley and has an interesting looking sailing from Bali to Darwin. Actually quite a few sail from Bali or Singapore

Carnival has a new (controversial) status program rolling out this October and I am due to sail with them from Sydney in November

Celebrity has a ship Sydney based over summer. Currently the Edge. Solstice passes through to/from Asia and Nth America - with a limited Oz sailings. RCCL and Celebrity (and Silversea) are all part of the RCCL brand - so you can now consolidate sailings under one of the three loyalty programs.

I believe there’s an NCL ship based in Oz over the summer season. As does Holland America (back and fourth to NZ).
