Oasis in the Copper Belt

I visited the Private Room on arrival and prior to departure so had plenty of time to sample the breakfast and lunch menus over the 2 visits - in no particular order;

A few more TPR pics then unlike previous visits I was taken right through to the door of the A380 by the F host

Onboard I was offered a PDB, and the meal service started shortly after the seatbelt light went off

The meal and wine were again all enjoyed















I saw a post from I think @boomy with this same wine - it was spectacular in the air and stood proud.

Arriving in DEL was painless, I stayed at the Pullman - it was very nice. I had “airport” views. I Uber’d it into Connaught Place (35min $5.30) and spent about 4 hours wandering around then joined a paid food tour of Old Delhi - it was great, and again exclusive

After the Tour I uber’d back to the Pullman, showed and packed up and headed to the airport for my 0.2.30 flight

I was given an invite to the Enclam Prive lounge, nice enough but I was tired. I tried an Indian sparkling wine- not worth taking a picture to remember it.

I had a PDB - C. H. Mumm champagne - meh. I declined the meal service and slept

The Business / Cloud 9 lounge in Addis Ababa is the biggest lounge I have ever been in. Food was ok but after being spoiled over the previous few days I didn’t feel like much

Then the last leg to my destination. Business class were called first, we went down in the lift to our own bus, we (5 of us) waited about 30 minutes, then we were driven to the remote stand to find a long line of Y passengers lined up and boarding. We joined the end of the line and upon boarding found another 5 J passengers already seated? Then more Y and a couple more J pax arrived. It was bazaar. This flight was a B737 with 5-6 rows of 4 J seats, landing was delayed 40 minutes as the prime minister was at the airport

I had to give the Mumm a second chance as it looked like a freshly opened bottle with condensation suggesting it might be cold with bubbles this time- it was much more acceptable

On the second leg I sampled the ET meal offerings, and to ensure I could say I told you so (to myself) selected the beef for main - everything else was good












Desserts were displayed on a trolley to choose from

I didn’t spill the coffee -that was how it was served, I just had to not drip it down my shirt

I prefer the pool view at the Pullman at DEL. It's much quieter IMHO.

when this photo was taken there were about 420 kids, there ended up being about 480 plus the 30-40 mothers


They serve maize flour mealie-meal, beans and chicken

There is a national election here this coming Thursday, I was trying to get back to my accommodation before dark as it is not fun driving on the roads in the dark avoiding pot holes and all the locals out walking. Best laid plans and all - I ended up in the middle of a political rally in a car with no locals surrounded by thousands of people. Sorry for the poor quality, I took some video, these are just screenshots of the videos through a dirty windscreen and doesn’t show the situation I found myself in - thankfully very few people noticed me and the few who did and started yelling at me were in sections of road I was moving and not sitting stationary between trucks and cars…..

Looking forward to more postings on Zambia. I worked in the south of Zambia for a few months in 1980 although I didn't get to the Copperbelt. Sadly I have forgotten most of my Chinyanja now.

I’m not anywhere near the the mines, I am seeing lots of trucks loaded with copper/lead/zinc sheets from their electro winning process

The first 2 are of one of the main streets - I assume the stack in the distance is for power generation but could be linked to mining?

The 3rd is of a building on the outskirts of Ndola as I headed back towards Kantalomba
