Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

For future trial participants
Some other tidbits
Great tips - thanks for the recon. We're on for the 20th, might pack some snacks and books just in case, suss out the freeway and M7 interchange ahead of time.

Was it a particularly tiring day, or just a lot of tedium waiting for the next test exercise?

Appreciate the parking info too; thought it might be airport-run but can't really complain about Wilson (and they couldn't possibly be more expensive than SYD's dozen ripoff lots).

Shame the groups don't go down the aerobridges to simulate boarding and disembarkation processes... perhaps closer to the date they will.

Also sounds like a lot still needs to get done in the next 80 or so days.

SMH article posted at midnight;
Vietnam-based low-cost carrier VietJet is set to become the third international airline offering flights from Western Sydney International airport, with an announcement expected as soon as Monday to confirm planned services likely to begin with flights to Ho Chi Minh City.

Live this morning;
VietJet Air have announced flights out of Western Sydney International Airport to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) starting in January. Their mobile site shows you can already book flights from WSI.Two weekly flights starting January 17.This is a great announcement for Western Sydney

Great news! Hopefully the first step in creating their much-needed domestic network, and embarrassing our so-called national airline into doing something.
I assume they will reduce Mascot frequencies to shift over to WSI?
They seem to make daily work ex SYD, so it could be additional capacity given the local demographics. Do we have an air agreement with Vietnam?

The Ho Chi Minh City flights are supported by a contribution from the NSW Government through the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, a $16 million partnership with WSI to incentivise airlines to invest locally and ensure NSW remains competitive in the global race for air routes and visitor markets.
When gov funding runs out it'll be interesting to see how long they last.

Probably mentioned somewhere upthread, but VA currently doesn't recognise WSI at all.

I know they may not fly there themselves, but it also precludes searching for (and maybe booking) SQ awards to or from WSI.

I get the impression they are close. If you edit the URL during the search to WSI it actually recognises it as "Western Sydney" whereas a few weeks ago it wasn't.
