Change to Qantas Lounge Pass Transfers Effective July ‘26

Just saw this on my socials. Poor wording but looks like a major loss of benefit for lounge pass gifting.

This isn't just complimentary passes. Platinums, Golds and Qantas Club members are also losing status access to lounges on JQi flights.

Qantas definitely looking to crackdown on lounge overcrowding or is it part of the push to focus more on status credits than points. Generally, anyone with status would already be using their guesting abilities over a lounge pass unless travelling with larger groups.

In my use case it now makes it useless to hold the Amex QF Ultimate card as a Gold, given that my lounge passes were often transferred to my wife on the odd occasion when she would travel separately or to a mate. Looks like a great time to me to finally change my credit card.

So is that saying P1s can still transfer any lounge invite (including credit card ones) or is it just the P1 invites that can be transferred?

That's a massive devaluation of the passes with the restrictions on transfers.

I wonder how they will implement confirmation that someone is on the same flight? IF I want to transfer to a friend, do I just book a fully refundable J flight on their flight, transfer and then cancel? The restriction seems to be about transfer, not utilisation.

It’s awful wording but my assumption is that the P1 Flounge passes can still be transferred to others.
I doubt they will let us transfer PC or credit card passes the same as before.

Agree totally. I gift them to my wife when she is travelling without me as I can guest her in when we're travelling together. Also, to the kids when they are travelling without us, especially to family events.
We get four invitations per year through our credit cards, so I'm now rethinking which cards I keep.

Yes i misread - the JQ change is not applied to P1 members, but the transfer change does not include P1 invitations. I misread the second point as not applying to P1 members.

It's really annoying for me personally as I occasionally chaperone my dad and his partner on travels. As a SG, I can guest one person in but need a lounge pass for the other person. No more it seems.

Yes, but I'd need to get lounge passes first. And the wording above suggests that transfers can only occur to persons on the same flight. In other words, the issue is not transferring to my dad - it's getting a pass in the first place...

If you have passes and you are on the same flight, there is no issue transferring to your dad. But yes, you would have trouble getting passes from others to use for your dad.
