Attention passengers:

Due to high jet fuel price and it appears Air NZ cannot afford them, your flight may be retained or cancelled.

So it seems the losses at Air NZ is going to be much more severe than expected. A 100% increase of jet fuel price to US$160 is crippling airlines operations.

Wonder how they can recover from here.

Hmmm this would also serve to significantly demand on JQ/QF flights....

Probably a good thing, a lot of the fleet is grounded anyway so its really same same

44,000 people EFFECTED (not dumped or abandoned - moved to alternate flights).

1,100 flights cancelled, that means on average those flights only had 40 passengers, who are being accommodated on other flights

IMHO A huge media beat-up

Sounds like an excuse for what they were already planning to do.
