50000 Bonus Aeroplan points with new HSBC Star Alliance Card

I think I got my answer. Reading Fast track your way to Aeroplan 50K Status with the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card dot point #6:

Earn 30,000 welcome bonus Aeroplan® points (the “Welcome Bonus”) when you spend $4,000 AUD or more on Eligible Purchases in your first 90 days from account opening with your HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card. Only Primary cardholders that apply and are approved for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card between December 1st, 2025 to March 3rd 2026, and receive Aeroplan 50K Status after nominating Air Canada as their Status Airline through the Star Alliance Rewards Program will be eligible for the Welcome Bonus (more information available on the Star Alliance Rewards Terms and ConditionsExternal site which may not meet accessibility guidelines and/or language preferences.).

This line answers my question, if I can get 30000 Aero and 40000 Star alliance points. The answer is no :( its either:

Option 1: 30000 Aeroplan + Gold
Option2: 40000 Star alliance points only

seems bit different to krisflyer deal you mentioned earlier.
The SQ offer was 17 November to 28 December.

I'm sure this question was asked earlier but I couldn't find it.

Is it better overall to select Aeroplan for status as you'll get 2 years out of it, vs Krisflyer Gold?

I'm far from the expert but my read of earlier posts is that yes is the answer to your question but with the caveat that it will require paying the card annual fee to maintain the gold status in the second year. Only you can determine if the value is there.

Thank you. Last time I had this card, I kept the 50k status (for 2 years) even after closing the card. I'll take the gamble again this time.

Not forgetting that if you then match you’re Aeroplan elite to Marriott (through the aeroplan benefits section), your marriott go,d gives you Aeroplan silver for another year, fee free.

Which is good for getting through to the call centre!
