Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Wondering the same about the VA/QR flights from the past few days I haven’t seen anything about what has actually happened to those passengers on the cancelled flights leaving Australia.

Keeping an eye out for any actual VA/QR passengers from the last few days and how they were helped as someone I know is due to fly with them end of the month from Australia to the EU.

Agree - lots of opinions but would like to hear.
See my post above. They are only offering them a choice of same route different dates (relatively useless in this environment) or refund (also relatively useless if you need to get to your destination).

Our daughter has seats on VA (QR) from CBR -CPT via DOH. VA are only offering them a different date (same route) or a refund. They are taking the refund and we have rebooked on QF. This cost ~&5,000 more than the VA(QR) flights they had booked (2 adults and 1 child). But they needed to travel as our son, her brother who lives in the UAE is getting married in South Africa.

So no, VA is not offering re-routing or booking on another airline at the moment.

See screenshots of their policy in my post #1252 upthread.
So these were award flights or revenue bookings?

I have read the same for flights out of the EU on points being offered refund or date change.

I am wondering if revenue tickets are being treated any differently out of Australia

Nope they were paid flights. The were paying ~$6,000 in Y for the family on VA. On QF we just paid $10,700 for the three of them in Y.

Tickets out of europe on points are getting re-routed, the same as revenue. But you have to mention EU261 rather than QR’s policy.

Am Confused .. totally unfortunate timing I booked my flight from Amsterdam to Brisbane on Qatar via Doha …. Went totally against all my previous rules never to fly or stop at Doha or Abu .. then the next day all hell broke loose there.
My return flight is not till June . I have a flight booked in May singapore airlines Bris to Amsterdam via singapore there so no problem initial route.
I checked my Qatar flight conditions and my flight says non refundable but when I went into the cancel option there is a $ amount showing as the refund ..if that is the total combined refund its approx half what i paid . But i have to check the box that says my refund will be paid according to my ticket . .so that would be zero ?? Not cancelling if I have no hope of getting any money back its a bit misleading to show a $ amount but then it may be nothing ??
Am confused but would like to rebook before they all disappear a connecting in Singapore flight .
Any clarity on the refund amount would it be zero if the ticket says non refundable ?

As you are starting in EU, QR are required to rebook you to your destination assuming it is before March 22. Outside that you will have to wait for QR to update the dates they are rebooking pax.

The US president has now suggested the war is “very complete” and markets have already reacted with the oil price coming back down and shares in the green. Hopefully the Iranians agree and we’re back to relative normality soon.
Oil price also being helped by G7 meeting to discuss the potential to release world oil reserves and/or other measures to increase the supply. Which is good news!

Looks like Emirates is starting to go back to a lot more flights, I am wondering whether its prudent if you can get a flight straight through, the original plan was to spend a night in Dubai but I am wondering whether its better just to keep going, don't stop.
The early morning Sydney one got out today, but didn't see the early morning Emirates ex Melbourne one.

Well I have 6 weeks.

We have flights with EK for 5 pax booked in June. If we change anything, it'll be removing the overnight layover and changing that flight to a short stopover instead.

Airline fuel surcharges starting to kick in: Hong Kong Airlines to raise fuel surcharges by up to 35% amid oil price surge

The NZ Airlines filing at the NX Stock exchange earlier today is also interesting: NZX, New Zealand's Exchange - Announcements, Air New Zealand Suspends Fy2026 Guidance

"Due to this unprecedented volatility, the jet fuel price assumption underlying Air New Zealand’s 26 February 2026 guidance is no longer appropriate. The crisis is expected to meaningfully affect second-half earnings and accordingly, the airline has suspended FY2026 guidance until fuel markets and operating conditions stabilise."

ACCC if airlines try to do that in or ex AU!!

From what I can gather crude was ~$72 a barrel before the war, today it is $90. No way that’s a 35% increase.

Apologies if already asked and answered. There is a conflict between the normal fare rules and the guidance due to the reduced flight schedules. If I was to book an EK flight today for 27th March that is cancelled due to the ongoing problems, will a fee free refund occur (for travel before 31 March according to website) or the normal fare conditions $US375 cancellation fee.?
