Oneworld Classic flight reward ticket amendment

I just got off the phone with a Qantas call centre representative regarding my Oneworld Classic Reward booking, as I was trying to make some changes.

At the moment (although the ticket hasn’t been reissued yet), my itinerary is still showing as confirmed in the portal as follows:
  • MEL – SIN – BLR – CMB – CDG (stopover)
  • FRA – CLT – BUF (stopover)
  • YYZ – CLT – LAX (stopover)
  • LAX – HNL
My plan was to book up to NAN (Fiji) and then purchase a separate ticket back to MEL. The idea is to return later (in December) and continue the journey from MEL to SIN and eventually back to MEL again.

I was able to find reward availability from Fiji to Singapore. However, the agent told me I would need to pay approximately 180,000 additional points (for 3 pax) to add this flight. I explained that I have already paid the maximum cap of 365,800 points (per pax) for the Oneworld Classic Reward and therefore shouldn’t need to pay more.

He responded that unless I also have the return sector available (e.g. SIN–MEL or another routing back to Australia), he wouldn’t be able to add the Fiji–Singapore flight. I’m quite confused by this explanation. I even offered to refer to Clause 14 of the Classic Reward Flight Conditions, but he was adamant with his same response.

Am I missing something here? Is it possible that Qantas has somehow repriced or converted my booking from Oneworld Classic Reward to a standard Classic Reward?

Also, how long does ticket reissuance typically take after changes are made? If the amended flights are showing as confirmed in “Manage Booking,” is it reasonable to assume the ticket will be reissued within a few hours or a day?

I’m feeling anxious that my booking may have been altered or repriced incorrectly. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

The NAN-SIN sector you added has taken your itinerary over the 35k mile limit.

MEL-SIN-BLR-CMB-CDG-FRA-CLT-BUF-YVZ-CLT-LAX-HNL-NAN-SIN-MEL comes up as being 35,749 miles (noting that the mileage back to the starting destination is included in this calculation).

Edit: initially omitted HNL from the calculation but the result is the same, miles exceeded.

Sorry, it was meant to be SYD (not SIN). As per great circle map, it turns out to be
Total Distance
34,589 mi (55,665 km)
69h 39m (est)

How are you flying SIN-BLR? I don’t believe there’s a oneworld airline that flies this, unkess you’re flying via CMB?

I’m getting the itinerary well under 35k miles… only comes to 29k plus change.

Hmm, interesting that your calculation is way lower than mine. So SYD - BLR is with Qantas direct as classic rewards flight.

Ok, cause you’ve written MEL-SIN-BLR. That would still be ticketsble, but would take you outside the OWA capping.

I just ran the itinerary, assuming MEL-SYD-BLR and still get 29k and change?

GCM is giving me 34,593 miles and 14 segmenst. I can't see anything that contravenes the OWA rules. Did you have to pay those extra points in order to get this ticketed?

I used: MEL-SYD-BLR-CMB-CDG-FRA-CLT-BUF-YYZ-CLT-LAX-HNL-NAN-SIN-MEL
So far, the confirmed ITN is MEL-SYD-BLR-CMB-CDG-FRA-CLT-BUF-YYZ-CLT-LAX-HNL
Just recently got my ticket issued, so happy with that, but still need to add a few legs (ideally NAN-SIN-MEL) so if i add the surface sector from HNL to NAN, it would come just under 35K.

That's what I thought as well, but for some reason when the agent tried to add Fiji Airways, I came up with a difference. I didn't go ahead with that booking, but managed to change other flights for this time.
