Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

After the initial 12 planes are used for SYD and MEL Sunrise flights, I would not be surprised if PER-LHR loads remain high to eventually see a Sunrise plane on PER-LHR and if the SIN-LHR route survives perhaps BNE-SIN-LHR on 787 with connecting flights from MEL and SYD. I would like the A380 to remain on SIN-LHR though.

I imagine this means we'll get 2 pretty quickly back to back. Possibly even a third to really get QF1 going.

A new dawn of travel is taking shape, with Project Sunrise set to transform the way Australians experience long-haul travel.

The second Qantas Project Sunrise A350-1000ULR has entered the final assembly line at Airbus in Toulouse, with the fuselage sections and wings now joined and the tail installed this week. The first Project Sunrise aircraft is in the advanced stages of ground testing, preparing to take to the skies for its flight test programme in the coming months.

These specially configured A350-1000ULRs will enable the world's longest commercial flights, overcoming the tyranny of distance to connect Australia's East Coast non-stop to London and New York.

I seriously hope SYD - LHR services can be launched as soon as NW26 starts so that all Britions can go back to where they come from for their Christmas quickly without affecting seat availability to Asia.

1st aircraft was at this stage in Oct 2025 I think - left the final assembly line in Nov 2025, and still hasn't flown yet. Progress of new (or sub) models always a bit slower.

QF has been fairly clear Sunrise service won't commence until 2027 when they have three aircraft.

Travellers that are more price sensitive will still look to fly indirect. It is expected that QF will charge a premium over indirect for Sunrise flights.
