Looking at buying Aeroplan points for a trip to Middle East( Jordan and Egypt tour) . Melb to Doha return in J class on Qatar/Virgin looks reasonable as Emirates and Etihad have dymanic pricing .Looks like availability 110K each way per person in October when I need them . If points take 72 hours to arrive , then am I likely to miss out on the flights ? Never bought points before so bit nervous about this and anything else I should know about Qatar?

As much as I can recall, all my points purchases arrived almost straight away. But if it’s your first it may take longer but I don’t know that for sure.

I think you’d be unlucky for the seats to disappear in even a day or so, but hopefully even if they do there’s some a day or so either side.

What type of other thing did you want to know about QR?

Reports that points can take up to 48 hours to arrive in some cases.

Mine arrived instantly the other day, but that’s not a give.

EK and EY aren’t dynamically priced. The higher cost reflects the ‘premium’ those airlines charge for their front cabins (like as in an extra $1000 on qantas awards). But as Aeroplan awards only charge taxes, the ‘premium’ is reflected in higher points.

So looking for an AC (partner) award on the VA marketed (flight number) VA operated, by a (sham) QR wet lease arrangement, flight. The flight will also have a QR codeshare flight number and the VA prime flight number.
Is a thread on FT AC subforum about the same situation. Had difficultly in getting seat allocation. but was sorted.

The only thing that shows on the aeroplan booking tool is the VA flight(s), so if it’s there, book it.

I did seat selection by calling VA. But can’t manage the booking on line in any way.

The tour starts in Cairo and ends in Amman so I am looking at doing Melb- Doha- Cairo One way , which is a VA flight number then Egypt Air. Then return Doha - Melb one way using Aeropoints.
Looking at QF points doing Amman to Doha separate ticket on RJ , the day before Doha to Melb.
Anybody see problems doing this ? I need to ring VA for seats and what about Egypt air seats ?

Egyptair I just selected seats on line. Beware they change aircraft frequently and often intra ME, so check back every so often to see if better seats come up.

No issues with a separate ticket the day before for AMM-DOH.

You might be able to cobble together AMM-DOH on star alliance as well if you wanted, and include that for an extra 5k points if you want a stopover in DOH (or for no additional points if connecting straight through.)

I bought some Aeroplan points around an hour ago (great deal btw) and they haven't yet landed.

I also called the call centre to see if they could see it / follow-up, all they could state was "up to 72hrs" as per the email, but normally within 24hrs.

Nervously waiting for the points to land on the account to redeem some reward seats - really don't want to miss out on them!

there is no point calling the call centre.. it’s a different company that processes the points.

For first time buyers, or new accounts, it can take up to 48 hours. There is nothing you can do to speed this up.

Worth a shot. The worst they can say is just be patient which was pretty much what was implied.

Yep, new account and first time purchasing points. A double whammy so to speak.

Hoping that the reward seats I saw are still available by the time the points land.

Not even worth a shot I’m afraid and the only thing it does is occupy time if the agent who could be assisting pax with genuine needs.

There is burning g the call centre can do to speed up points.

Appreciate you’ve already done this, but just to make clear for others coming to this thread at a later time :)
