I'm stepping down from the AFF editor role

Thanks for all your efforts and contributions over the years @Mattg - as others have said, your knowledge and travel experience sharing has been greatly appreciated and you are indeed leaving some very big shoes to fill. Glad to hear you'll still be hanging around the AFF Community - look forward to catching you at a future event. Wishing you all the very best for your future endeavours and many more travel adventures ahead!

Adding my congratulations on a great innings Matt, hope to meet you in person one day to thank you for all the content that has built up this community.

Thank you for all that you have done to nurture and contribute to this community. Your consistantly thoughtful and insightful posts were one of the main reasons I joined AFF. May your onward path be smooth, adventurous, and fulfilling!

I just won't be the person behind the AFF Editor account going forward, which will become a general editorial account next year.

So who is taking on the role?

I'm a bit confused.

Also noticed Chris Chamberlin left Point Hacks recently mentioning they now prioritise social media - a shame that actual journalists and well written articles seem to not be a priority for the company.

And of course congratulations, thank you, and best wishes for the future.

Very sad to see you go Matt. The place won't be the same without you. I hope that AFF can maintain its focus.

All the best, Matt. We have learnt a lot from you. Not good if you were pushed out.

This smacks of Point Hacks/AFF cost-cutting. I've often wondered how fiscally viable blog-type websites are.

Maybe Point Hacks had a rush of blood in 2022 and paid way too much to acquire AFF, which with the continual debasement of frequent flyer schemes by airlines (think QF devaluations, or SQ's refusal thus far to remove three-year points expiry while also devaluing the effective value of points) tends to make 'best fares of the day' a more sensible option for leisure travellers who don't have an occupation that constantly sees FF points earnt.

Thanks Matt for all your contributions over the years. I have used many of your tips.
Hopefully you might tidy up point hacks when you get there - I was looking for a velocity churner and see that the point hacks advice was way off

Says 100,000 points on the summary when in fact it is only 50,000. You get the other 50,000 when you sign for the 2nd year; at full card fee.
I feel that such information should be on the summary paragraph.

(Why am I posting a whinge here? It's what came up when I searched point hacks)

Is AI a threat to these journalists?

I have no personal knowledge as to the circumstances of Matt’s departure from the Editor position and have no association with PointHacks other than being a member on this forum, but I’d caution against reading too much into it and positing what may well be conspiracy theories about the whole situation.

Let’s just wait and see what the future holds.

Did I miss this announcement? Moving to Point Hacks?
No idea. I just saw Matt's name on the Points Hacks staff page and made the assumption he was going there???
