Checked baggage through on separate bookings

Yeah, unfortunately my reading of this is that because my flights are both award tickets, that exemption doesn't apply to me.

Taking the gate 15 transit bus is the outcome I'm hoping for. But it looks like there's not much I can do ahead of time - just turn up at Mel domestic and ask if my bags can be checked through.
I've read elsewhere (other threads on here), that the airside bus isn't operating at the moment, you need to catch a landside bus anyway.
I'd consider the train, even though it costs money, should be faster than the bus at this time of year.

The QF exception covers reward and revenue for oneworld flights.

The SQ/QR-QF example goes across airline alliances.

So if the SQ policy was the same as QF’s it would only cover star alliance reward/revenue, not from star to oneworld (QR/QF).

Yeah, but again in that example it was connecting to a oneworld flight (QR).

No need to split hairs. We both know that we both know the policy.

AA are pretty good at that. 😀

Nothing to do with AA, that’s QF published policy at work.

AA won’t even connect to other AA flights on different bookings. There are rate exceptions (like the one I mentioned earlier) but certainly something you can’t expect.

Yes, the policy quoted above covers your situation exactly. However if you are doing a return journey in reverse, BA won’t connect to a separate PNR (even BA to BA). But for outbound it’s just a matter of getting staff who know how to do it, so don’t be afraid to ask for a supervisor if you are told it can’t be done. Have the interline policy page handy if you can, though I doubt you will need it.

Edit - are you trying to through check 3 PNRs? That might be pushing it. Doesn’t stop you asking.

Not that it matters but this is not possible, a PNR can hold multiple tickets, a ticket can’t hold multiple PNRs. As QF and BA use the same system, and due to some relics of the old joint venture, any BA booking with your QFF number will automatically show up in your QF app. If QF said they were linking your bookings that’s nice but it does absolutely nothing.
Two Qantas PNRs -> Revenue and Classic Rewards
One revenue BA PNR, put my QFF when booking, shows up on my app.

Flight goes: QF Rev -> QF CR -> BA Rev; the QF Rep (Hobart Team) has put the BA Rev flight details into the QF CR (and also shows up on the app as well), as well as put a note in the system to try and get the baggage sent all the way through to my final destination via BA. They had told me to go earlier than I normally would, so there would be enough time for the checked baggage staff to interline the bag all the way through. They did also check QF's policy which seems to be fine in this situation but luck of the draw with the gate agent's experience and mood.

Considering other OW carriers are able to push through baggage even on different PNRs, I am sure I can try my luck to see if they can do the same. Not the end of the world if they can't, that means I can offload some items to my friend who's not flying with me to the final destination 🤣

You should be fine as the QF to BA handover is a mix of CR and revenue. If both were revenue or CR you might have had issue. The two QF PNRs are not an issue.

As above they can’t combine PNRs, sounds like they just “linked” the PNRs which does absolutely nothing, despite many a call centre worker thinking otherwise. BA bookings automatically show on QF due to their previous JV.

That said I think you’ll be fine. Definitely allow extra time to check in.

Yeah they just GK'd a segment to show for the Gate Agent.

Extra time and hopefully a smooth baggage process will result in more time to enjoy the lounge 😁

Yes, and shows what airlines can and should do to offer service.

But QF and all other Oneworld airlines have decided they don’t want to provide that service, unless all on the one ticket, or in the case of qantas, award to revenue,
It wasn't "all other oneworld airlines" that decided they didn't want to do it. It was BA and AA, because they didn't want to pay the extra costs of having to transfer bags across tickets (which otherwise would have been covered in a single ticket), or deal with the mess that a through checked trip would create in the event of a delay caused missed connection.
That's why they won't check across PNRs at all.

QF decided they would in the listed events. If they didn't want to provide the service, they wouldn't have exceptions where they do.

JL, QR and CX have no problems connecting across PNRs.

Worked okay me, but can’t speak for others. Maybe I’m just lucky.
