The problems created when things don't line up between airlines...

Qantas says that Europe, Africa etc is the weight system, but Emirates use the piece system to Africa (including Cairo) - and the different systems seems to totally bamboozle the call centres of both airlines - to the point where each call centre says to ring the other one!

If I am a FF Nobody then
- on a EK ticket in Y I get 2x 23kg bags
- on a QF ticket in Y (on EK metal) I think that I get a total allowance of 30kg

As a WP though -
- on a EK ticket in Y though neither call centre can figure out what my allowance should be
- on a QF ticket in Y again neither call centre can figure out what my allowance should be

Has anyone got any insights...

BTW for everyone's info Emirates has dropped the discounted price they had for excess luggage that was sporting equipment - you now pay the normal excess baggage rate.

Tbh it doesn't matter what emirates use. You booked the flight as a QF flight number, presumably direct through Qantas.
So it will be the kg allowance. Anyone with access to the booking can just look at the ticket and it will literally say 30kg or 1PC or 2PC.

I haven't made the booking yet - would prefer to know what the allowance will be before I choose to make it as either a QF or EK booking as will have a lot of baggage.

I just tried to make a dummy booking on QF, and it only shows an allowance of 30kg even though I am logged in with my WP account, and the Qantas webpage says that QFF receive an extra allowance when flying on Emirates.

How much do you want to take?

Even on the EK only system you’d get an extra piece as a QF WP.

If the QF ticket says 30Kg you’d get an extra 20Kg according to the EK policy.

By design. Officially the QF status allowance only applies to QF metal, not QF codeshares on other carriers.

Qantas website states you get 30kg in the booking process.
The frequent flyer allowance is not a part of the ticket, it's a separate add on.

I'm looking at around 60kg - going on a diving expedition.
Even on the EK only system you’d get an extra piece as a QF WP.
It would be handy if they actually had that on a website somewhere so as you -
a) knew what your allowance was definitely going to be, and
b) could print it out
If the QF ticket says 30Kg you’d get an extra 20Kg according to the EK policy.
Do you have a link to that policy? I'm damned if I can find it anywhere.

QF and EK metal - seemingly regardless of whether it is booked as a QF or EK flight

Ah OK - that would explain why it is only showing 30kg then.

The way this is headed I could end up booking an EK ticket and getting 2x 23kg plus a QFF bonus of 20kg...

Because it’s EK offering the benefit, not QF, but it happens to be the same (+20Kg or extra piece).

It’s just better to think this way as it’s not as synchronised with oneworld carriers. Also answers your question about listing the extra allowance, QF can’t be expected to maintain this info for every partner airline. It will quickly become out of date.

The EK link is here - Membership Benefits | Emirates Skywards Loyalty Programme | Emirates Australia. EK will treat QF WP as their own WP. My boarding pass last month actually said Skyrewards Plat with a QF number.

You won’t get 2 pieces plus 20Kg, you’d get 3 pieces. Again, it’s the EK policy that counts.
