The Qantas Status Run Master Thread

Around the 350 mark based on other travel I've got coming up before the review date.

The PEK-NRT return via TPE ends up being 320 status credits for ~$1,300, so around $4/SC.
That seems pretty good value at around $4/SC.

I had a quick look playing around with some options and MEL-BNE-CHC-AKL one way is about $1,100 and earns 165 SC's at a rate of $6.67/SC. Doing that twice (ie: return the same way) would get you to 330 SC's.

Of course when you work out the "true cost" of the SC's in your routing you will need to add in the costs associated with your positioning flights (flights + any additional accommodation etc) and that will quickly bump up the $$/SC.

I'm not sure if this would credit as HKG-TPE and TPE-NRT or just HKG-NRT as the flight operates under the same code [CX450] and that you'd be flying it as a through ticket.

If you haven't already looked into it, check out Qantas' Status On The Ground promo for up to 110 SC without flying. Also consider Green Tier for 50SC. As for earning the balance needed for Gold retention? Look out for Double Status Credit promos. That will enable the easiest/cheapest method of earning those remaining SC. Plenty of discussion here on AFF whenever those promos take place.

Edit: Apologies, just read your post again and realised you mentioned you're based in New Caledonia (which makes it trickier).

Edit 2: Both promos may technically still offer some options for your wife to earn SC. Green Tier could potentially work if she targets the Flying, Travelling, Shopping, Learning and Give Back leaves.

Much depends on your budget @christopherc and whether she wants to spend time on the ground at all ( @DejaBrew is the master of a recent SR!)

Anything in J to Melbourne/Adelaide via Sydney or Brisbane is a start.
Would need to use multi-city and work out the SC's.
Of course, if DSC comes out Feb/March that would help considerably - at least you have a few months to nuts something out.
