Yep, excellent work from McLaren to take out the Constructors’ title - great work from the team.

Agree with Brundle though that the rules of engagement for the two drivers have now changed. Game on!
 
Except for the first lap that was way more boring than I expected....

PIA had two reasons to get the place back under papaya rules, he was rammed by his teamate and he had a bad pitstop!

Just watching Ant Davidson disect it on the Skypad and blaming PIA the whole time...in the last sentence he says "but NOR could have braked and it was mostly his fault"

PIA will get tough now I hope.

Other takeaway was that the new woke Superman is only about 1.5 inches taller than Brundle!
 
I think PIA has just done the maths and is driving very conservatively at this stage of the season. Earlier in the year you could see him being much more aggressive, but now he appears to be protecting his points lead. NOR, on the other hand, has to be aggressive and take more risks. A slightly different bump last night and he takes himself out of the race, or takes VER out, or takes PIA out. With an aggressive mindset, that’s probably an acceptable risk.

Once the points permutations reduce, we may well see Oscar have an ‘accident’ with his teammate if it’s to his advantage. There is plenty of precedent in F1 and I think NOR knows that!

Any driver other than NOR winning, helps PIA, as long as he only drops 3 points in the gap between teammates each race. Similarly, even if VER won all six remaining races, as long as PIA is also on the podium he takes the championship.

Will be interesting to see if the mindset changes during the swing through the Americas.
 
Don't disagree that NOR needs to be aggressive but that move was very close to putting both cars out - which would have meant no WCC for McLaren, and VER being an awful lot closer in the WDC.

Thankfully that wasn't the case.

But it also shows that the core Papaya rule - don't crash into/ touch your teammate has limited consequences.

Only touch - no harm/ no foul.
Actually say put out PIA - slap on the wrist, racing accident.
Put out both cars - slightly harder slap on the wrist.

To be fair to Ant, I believe his observation was that after he sees all the angles, PIA will realise that he contributed to putting NOR into that position (which he was of course entitled to do), but that this contributed to the chain reaction of events. Ant also stated that he was surprised NOR wasn't shown a black and white flag (at the very least).

He signed a revised contract in March this year that was described as "for the long term".

Yes there are probably some outs but suspect winning the WCC and being 1 and 2 in the WDC doesnt trigger any performance clauses
