Hi - my better half and I are travelling next year, business class return, from Sydney to Edinburgh (via Doha), booked directly with Qatar.
The first flight is codeshare with Virgin, the other three are all Qatar.
We are both QFF and Velocity members (albeit at the bottom levels) but have also just signed up with Qatar.
With the Velocity / Qatar link up, can anyone suggest which program, if any, would be the most beneficial in earning FF points?
We already hold about 350k QFF points and a few thousand Velocity.
Thanks

If you do re not plan to travel overseas in the next few years, then crediting all the points earned, on all flights of your trip, to your Qatar account would not be beneficial. This is only my personal view, but you may get better use by crediting all of your flights to your Velocity account. That way, you have the benefit of using those Velocity points for domestic flights, or even using them for Virgin partner flights. No doubt others will offer other suggestions.

It sounds like you'd be wanting to use the points domestically. Any of the 3 would work well (Qatar/BA could be spent on Qantas/Qantaslink). So i'd check WhereToCredit to see if you get wildly more points for one loyalty scheme over the other. But also bear in mind it's much easier to earn QFF / Velocity points in Australia compared to Qatar Avios

Is it not only the VA (code share though) that can be credited to VA? Do you get VA points ok for DOH-EDI? If so could be worthwhile if you intend to utilise VA in the future. Family pooling would maybe also increase realistically opportunity of one getting to Gold and thus status with VA. Otherwise, credit to QR, also join BA club. You can swap QR AVIOS with BA for 1-1. As mentioned also in thread, BA offer some good redemptions on QF flights.

All QR flights earn VA status credits and points
