Flew BKK-KUL-SYD business class including flying on their new A330-900 neo. On the Sydney leg. We do the j class SYD-BKK route twice a year.
My partner and I purchased Syd-BKK rtn J class tickets for $3700 QF wanted $5800.
I’m sorry Malaysian we thought we’d give you another try but there is no way to put this your service levels are dismal.
I was looking forward to sleeping on the 8 hour leg, amenity kits come out an hour into the flight , no ear plugs and yes you need them because the plane is quieter you can hear everyone snoring or on their phone. I asked two different attendants for ear plugs and was ignored, twice! The worst part is after skipping a midnight dinner I thought breakfast after a sleep would be great. Breakfast started to be served 3 hours 5 minutes before landing in Sydney! So 3 hours 45 mins sleep for me. The new a330-900 is quieter but for a side sleeper the distance between the bed and the tray table will make it unworkable for most people. It’s such a pity their new plane looked great but the service level and functionality is terrible. To make matters worse we arrive in SYD and they lose my luggage. The service desk says my luggage arrived at Sydney airport but they can’t find it.
So now looking at prices booking our next SYD-BKK rtn J class fare MH has it for $3370, QF $5900 and there is no way I’d fly Malaysia ever again. I hope this helps somebody.

I flew MH end of August MEL-KUL-BKK much the same issues MH128 with an 11:30pm departure I just wanted to get too sleep. When asked which meal for dinner I asked no dinner, no breakfast could I just get the satay for breakfast. Same request for my partner, certainly mr and miss PVC!. 330 neo is quiet comfortable and well equiped for sitting but seat not fantastic to sleep. upon waking up lo and behold no satay. What's the point in asking :(

As a note, I would fly them again, over paying stupid money with QF. Probably go with SQ instead seem to have some in-between the others in pricing.

Short sleeping times have always been a feature of BKK/KUL/SIN to Aus, no matter who you fly with, which is why I prefer day flights. If you skip dinner by eating in the lounge for red eyes there is always someone onboard who is hungry, keeping you awake with the clink of dishes and glasses. As for earplugs, pack a couple in your carry on, hardly high cost.

That’s the whole point of a review if I knew there was no ear plugs I would’ve brought some and yes you can get 6 hours sleep at least on the QF flight BKK-SYD. As for my bag well it’s finally turned up crushed thanks Malaysian what winners they are!IMG_3563.jpeg

While MH is far from the world's best airline, and your experience sounds less than ideal, you are trying to compare a $5800 vs $3700 experience.
QF and MH are not in the same league IMO.

You raise a valid complaint in quiet cabins re: click click click of texting sounds from folks who have no self awareness, and the amplification of snoring.

MH is the airline you fly when everything else is too expensive.

So would you be willing to pay the premium QF is demanding to avoid MH next time, or fly someone else? The meal timing and having to follow up with earplugs is annoying but IMHO I’d make sure I had my own equipment like noise-cancelling earphones for an overnight flight.

We will definitely pay the QF premium and try and get an Asian red tail sale fare for $4700-$5000. The j product is just not there on Malaysia airlines unfortunately.
