Hi,

I'm trying to work out the best flight options for some friends for their trip to Europe & would really appreciate any thoughts & suggestions.
(This will be a paid flight as they don't have any frequent flyer points)

Here are the flights they need:

Perth to Venice
(somewhere in Spain or France) to Helsinki
Helsinki to (somewhere in mainland Europe - perhaps in Germany)
(somewhere in mainland Europe) to Perth

I thought that one of the European carriers that seem to include a side flight - eg KLM or Emirates. This will cover the first & fourth flight - any thoughts for the second & third flight? Is there a better (and/or cheaper) way to achieve the above?

Alternately are there any multi-stop (or around the world) tickets that might be worth considering?

I appreciate any comments.

Thanks,

Gary.

Given they want to fly into VCE, Emirates would be the logical choice, one stop in Dubai from Perth and theyre there.

With the internals, either look at booking sector fares or an airpass, though generally these days I find sector fares far cheaper.

Even if you fly with a European carrier like Lufthansa, its only going to include Frankfurt-Venice, giving you what you would have already had with EK and you'll then have to put up with a sub-standard economy class for the privalege; sure it'll give you the Helsinki-Frankfurt sector also, but i'd rather shell out for that short flight and avoid LH in Y in leiu of better service and a more direct flight on the long haul

Don't wan't to start a long discussion.......... but to call Lufthansa's Y sub-standard in comparison to Emirates I think is only slightly exaggerated  and a very personal opinion. ;)

I didn't suggest they were sub standard in comparison to EK, only that they were sub standard compared to other airlines, read into it what you will.

It's not just my opinion, its also the opinions expressed to me by the large majority of clients whove chosen to fly them over my many years in the industry.
Their J product always wins praise, but its Y product always seems to draw criticism in great numbers.

How is my 'personal opinion' on LH any less relevant or worthy of sharing than your own just because mine is negative?

Also, consider looking at the multitude of LCCs that fly in Europe. A good site that I have used in the past is whichbudget.com.

Air Berlin fly to a number of destinations in Germany and Helsinki. I have flown them before and had a smooth experience.

Thanks for everyones comments so far.

I have just found out that they have 90,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Obviously this is not enough for even 1 return airfare, but I guess they could use this for the two internal flights to & from Helsinki using Finnair? Would this be the best use of these points? (sorry - I guess this is more of a question for the QFF forums, but thought it best to avoid duplicating the message since the main airfare is still going to have to be purchased, and probably with Emirates).

Thanks,

Gary.
