The Qantas Status Run Master Thread

Hello everyone. I took a sabbatical here for years and now I want to come back with a hint on becoming Qantas Gold without being in Australia at all.
Try Japan.
Japan Airlines offers First Class seats between Okinawa and Haneda, as well as Haneda and Chitose on their A350-900 Aircraft.
Okinawa and Haneda offers 90SC for Qantas Frequent Flyers one way, where as Chitose offers 60SC.
Therefore a one way F Flexible ticket on Japan Airlines from Okinawa to Chitose will earn you 150SC.
Cost? Approximately 90000 Yen each way.
How about 4 x Qantas Group Sectors? Try Jetstar Japan.
You know the maths.
If you're after something starting in Japan for a status run, try something like KIX-HKG-KHH-HKG-KIX on CX. 120k JPY in J return and earns 240SC. Just over 5 AUD per SC.

So, unless you're needing to go to Japan, you've spent ~$1200AUD to get ~1/3 way to earning or halfway to retaining gold?! 🤔 Seems you'd be better off buying a QC membership.

I think it's great value for AUD/SC. Prob one of the cheapest I can find. Thank you for this.
 
Has anyone done a same day turn around at Noumea (NOU)?
QF359 lands at 3:15pm and returns at QF360 at 4:25pm.
Is it possible HLO to do this?

Ideally would have liked to stay a day at NOU, but not sure how safe it is in the current environment.

I was looking at the SYD-NOUrtn but the site won't let me saying not available (when it clearly is) so thinking it doesn't like the 50min turn around even though its the same plane and I imagine you would get both BPs when starting your journey (like I do on SYD-AKL) so wouldn't be an issue

I thought things had settled down some months ago? Shame not to get down to one of the hotels. The good thing with QF operated is it gets in early arvo, so still daylight and you’re not up at “sparrow’s” to fly home.

The airport bus transfers are a good option.

I’ve worked out that I’ll be 108 SC's short of retaining Platinum by 30th Nov. With the DSC offer, I think it’s now achievable. I’d appreciate some guidance on where I should be looking to go for the best value. I’m based in SYD and planning a long weekend trip from 31st Oct – 2nd Nov.

I did this last year. On arrival a QF rep met me at aircraft door, took me to departures area. Had access to AirCal lounge and then I took the return flight. Understandably the crew were surprised/delighted to see me back.

Is there a way to do the SC run to AKL and return without having to clear customs? I.e. get off the plane; off to the lounge (if possible) and get the return flight?

Yes. There's a transit point. I did this a fortnight ago, with no problems. I was the only person there (it was 12.15am however). I was actually quite surprised that they didn't ask to see any paperwork. Just went through security in the usual way, and then off to a VERY empty departures concourse. To wait until the lounge opened in 4 hours.
You would need to check the opening hours of the transit point though.
What time is your transit?
 
I get in at 1815 to AKL. Depart AKL at 2035. Is that cutting it fine? And will there be a lounge that I can access?

There's signage, but I'll check it out over the weekend and report back with clearer details (assuming someone else doesn't chime in with the info before I do).

Once you go through transit security and are fed back out to the departures area, you'll be able to access the Emirates Lounge (next door to the Qantas Lounge) as the Qantas Lounge is currently undergoing renovation.

SYD to CHC in EK F with a QF flight #, 240 QFF SC all up, $3500/$4000, I know, I know, too pricey, but if you havent done that, (you probably have), but its the easiest one to do.
 
Flights on EK are not eligible for DSC. There are far cheaper ways to earn 240SC and that’s more than double what TRS123 needs.

But it is fun! Could do EK F one way on a QF code, and go the other way in cattle...
