Two month trial of Platinum Plus

Got email from Virgin today welcoming me to a two month trial membership of Platinum Plus. Anybody else? Must admit there really does seem to be little benefit other than an ego boost but I'll keep an open mind ...
 
Yes, I've received the email too. Woot! Quite unexpected, but certainly nice. I have a couple trips planned in the next few months.

I've been booking a lot of J fares lately for the (much fewer) times I fly these days, so even Economy X benefits has been less useful as Platinum member, and I haven't been able to use the Upgrade vouchers for a couple years now.

I got to Partner Platinum last year, and am still waiting to assign that benefit to my wife (who dropped to Gold), but now I have the P+ Partner Platinum benefit to assign too.

Shame they can't bring a Lounge back to my home port of CNS. It would be nice if they could give an F&B voucher at non-lounge ports for J and high Status members in lieu of the lounge.

That is the one thing I still miss since switching from Qantas to Virgin post covid: no Virgin lounge at Hobart airport, and in the general departure lounge it's survival of the fittest!
 
So from a friend. This is test launch to iron out process and technical issue before 1st Oct real launch. It’s a smaller group of 500 eligible accounts.

For those who have it now - I’d encourage you to give strong feedback about this new tier ….especially about the “value” of it if any compared to Plat.

Apparently this tier has been in works since VA 1.0 and originally Plat and Plat plus had plans for it own seperate lounge network like QF domestic J lounges.

I don’t see any justification for it being double the requirement of Platinum. For what? Not much

Where’s this from? Nobody has a Platinum Plus physical card yet.
 
I noticed on my upcoming bookings that my status is showing as "VIP". I wonder if this is where access to Beyond lounge is being granted - possibly there is no disctinction between Beyond member status (VIP) and Platinum Plus (VIP) member status in VA's system, and therefore, "computer says, 'Yes'".

Now... where is the Beyond Lounge entry in BNE for next month... 😉

They were able to let me in Sydney and Melbourne for Beyond lounges - but I flew on the day Platinum Plus was introduced. Lounge staff in Sydney scanned boarding pass and escorted me up to Beyond lounge. And the twice I've emailed the team, the Beyond team replied to the email.

And obviously the main difference is if you book in Choice you can still use a complimentary upgrade. And it's not subject to reward seat availability - I've used 2 both times there were no reward seat available but had 3 cash seats. You'll also get another 4 complimentary upgrades from 1 October.

It says "Beyond" on the boarding pass if you're the real deal. But back in the days of The Club, it came up as "Velocity VIP". Possibly what happened is that they made a new tier in the system when Beyond was created, rather than renaming the existing level - and now they have assigned the new Platinum Plus cohort to the same level previously given to The Club, without doing all of the changes that come with it. It could be how people have also been able to access the SQ F lounge in SIN, as this was previously also a benefit of The Club, but could be something that Velocity wants to keep if it can.

I wish this was also the case for using points to upgrade!

If you’re a P+ you’ve flown $18,000 worth of revenue for the airline. Surely they can spring for some lounge access.
