New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

Thought AF had or are dumping domestics ...or most of them in favour of trains? A lot can be said for Oneworld anyway if routing via LHR for plenty of euro connections with BA.
Some, but certainly not all (for now).

Only 3 lines got cut, and they only concern ORY. CDG is not impacted. So in practice zero impact on Sunrise.

I don’t mind LHR but I’d also rather a couple of decent J flights via the ME rather than a connection at LHR on to an inferior Euro J product.

Again, that’s what QF effectively did with the deep EK partnership. There’s actually very few BA codeshares left but domestic hops are obvious handy onward flights if you’re already at LHR. Much easier than decamping into the city to catch a train.

And there are a group of people who refuse to fly ME airlines, but even that there are competition from SQ, CX etc against QF. QF is still behind them in product and service offerings.

Ironically I booked QF33/34 in November as part of Points Plane offering, I would not be surprised if I receive an email in the future from AAdvantage (ticketing agent) saying my QF33/34 flights are cancelled .....

Hard to go past SQ for value.

Yes it is surprising that PER to CDG, one of Europe's biggest and appealing one would think, is maybe struggling yet London works ok despite I assume higher taxes. Never mind they can pull it and put it on Bali ex PER, that would work! 🙄🙄😜.not really sure if the price QF offer to Paris is that compatible against the one stop ops of other carriers.
Not sure that it's not working. The price offers are very likely a function of much stronger one-sided seasonality on the route. For example, loads out in April and May were 90% and 93%, whereas inbound was 60% and 61%. Inbound loads last year July through October were in the 80s and 90s.

Whether ULH flights can tolerate such seasonality is a different issue altogether. PER-LHR has some seasonality, but certainly not as extreme, while the seasonality appears quite different to Rome. Simply running it for half the year wouldn't work, but looking at the monthly loads there's probably only two months where it might work cutting. For such a short seasonal void, they'd probably just choose to carry the loss. If anything, I wouldn't be surprised to see an increased frequency in some months which might help cover lower frequency in other months.
