Transiting via AMS to Split from BKK

My son is flying from BKK-AMS-Split shortly with a 2hour layover on a KLM connecting flight. I feel like I should know the answer, but does he pass through customs in AMS, given that both AMS and Split are in the Schengen zone? I assume he might do passport control in AMS and pick-up bags in Split? (or do both occur in AMS) - thanks!

Wont bags be checked through to Split? While I’ve done immigration in AMS, I haven’t had to collect bags until my final destination.

I think you're hopefully right - I rang KLM today and they confirmed bags and immigration in Split.

It seems right… otherwise you’d have thousands of people transiting AMS, CDG, HEL etc every day having to collect bags and re-check them, which wouldn’t be possible on short connections of 50 mins etc.

I have done passport control at the first port of entry however.
