Hi all

Booked and paid for two of us on the one booking. My friend is not going to travel anymore. I’m the contact on the booking

So I called up (as I could NOT do it online) and got the booking separated. I’m the contact on both bookings.

The flight credit was available
And so I proceeded to “make a booking”. There was no place to change the passenger name sighs

Anyone had any success in transferring flight credits like this back to yourself ?

Not eligible to cancel it under the 24 hour rule as it came from a flight credit and is under 30 days from the scheduled flight and it was split off a previous booking

Thanks
Capt

Why can't you cancel the friend's ticket for a refund? The majority of QF long haul J fares are refundable albeit with a fee.

The criteria for changing names on domestic have rather restrictive (i.e. expensive) fare bucket rules as well, so not sure how good a value it is.

What would happen if you used the credit to book a domestic ticket (in the original name) then try and change the name on that? As long as the original international ticket departed from Australia, the conditions for flight credits don't seem to preclude this. They also suggest that once a new flight is booked, the conditions of the new fare apply, other than for cancellations where the most restrictive conditions apply.

Of course, depending on how much the original ticket was, the change fees will start to eat up the value (although as the name change requires using a flexible economy or business bucket at the end of the chain, it would make sense to make the first new ticket in the original name flexible to start with in order to minimise the fees incurred).

The upshot

I rang Qantas and as I was the travel arranger, selected the refund option.
Turns out that I had no rights to consent to a refund from the Flight credit
So my friend dropped in and gave consent during the call

The end result
$150 cancellation fee
No idea how it was calculated

7-14 working days for processing the Refund back to my credit card

I’ll post details when the email and refund show up
