Would you start crediting against Velocity...?

Hey everyone,

After reaching WP for Qantas I was thinking would it be beneficial to start crediting SQ and QR flights to velocity moving forward to start building Velocity status?

Or is it better to credit directly to say SQ or QR (although QR part of Oneworld makes it pointless with WP Qantas?)

EDIT: If I don't fly Virgin for domestic, is it still worth it? Especially for International.

If you're not going to fly VA domestically, the way that they have set up their "new" frequent flyer program, all the SQ flights you credit towards VA will be WASTED.

Why? Because you need minimum 50% VA flights to achieve anything these days. So you could credit nine million status credits towards VA, and you'd still get no status with them.

You'd need at least 250 / 500 in the first year SCs from Virgin to qualify for Gold, then 200 / 400 moving forwards.

I would only do this if you regularly flew VA for domestic.

As Stuser already said, you could earn endless SCs on SQ, QR, etc and not get VA status unless you met the new and improved™️ VA metal requirement.

Previously, you needed 8 sectors, but now you'll need 250 SCs for Gold and 500 for Platinum, which at a cost of 1 SC per $12... well, you can do the maths and see if it's worthwhile for you.

wow thats horrible.. so may as well credit directly to SQ then! And maybe credit QR to QFF!

Out of curiosity - why will you fly QF less now that you’re WP? You won’t get to enjoy those benefits if you fly SQ. … or QR to be honest as it doesn’t honour the best of the WP benefits being First lounge access on non-First tickets.

I mean not fly less with QF, but moreso where to credit SQ/QR flights - I am still relatively new to flying so want to try different airlines, diversify a bit to see what's out there! Especially because I have never flown the europe route, keen on keeping my options open, trying a bit of everything, and then decide which one i like better :D

I think my idea for SQ/QR was that I will be looking at award seats as priority via Velocity points (and the actual VFF status doesn't matter now based on what I just learnt from here) I think my initial question would have been better if I asked, if paying cash for SQ/QR where to credit given WP Qantas status > what's the next alliance to pick?

Any QR flights will still contribute to QF LTG, albeit at reduced partner rates. Unlike VA where they won’t help with any annual status let alone LT status unless you get 1:1 SCs on VA codes at $12/SC.

Yes, you could credit QR directly to QR (or another Avios based FF program), but yep it’s diluting the potential bigger picture earn with say QF. But if redeeming miles for flying is more important than status, there’s merit.

Similarly SQ but just be aware of the hard 3 yr expiry of points once earned. Unless you can earn a lot and burn a lot each couple of years, it can be problematic.

United used to be my go to *A FF program but it’s been “enhanced” beyond repair.

This is a very useful note.
Now that I have exceeded my "quota" for useful SQ flights credited to VA, I am wondering where to credit my next SQ flights for the year.... I wonder what the threshold is for Krisflyer to be actually useful.
