What's your Uber experience?

DiDi takes less of the fees at 15%, but as they often charge less in total for a trip, it can mean less in the end for the driver. When demand is high and Uber starts to surge, for example, a driver that usually makes more with DiDi would likely shift all fares to Uber as the amounts received for fares is easily above what DiDi would pay for the same runs

This aligns with my experience, a higher percentage of a much lower amount (which is sometimes the case) actually means less money, and while Didi can be much cheaper it can at times be hard to actually get a driver.

If you have time on your hands, I’m prepared to wait but if in a hurry and things are busy, that premium for Uber can be worth paying!

Has anyone got a "Uber BV AMSTERDAM" charge in their credit card? I use an Amex for Uber and I seem to have been charged various amounts from $4 to $12 on 4 instances this current FY. Looks like below;

Uber BV AMSTERDAM
I think all uber rides outsode of US are billed out of Amsterdam

Your CC pays Uber BV amsterdam $X
UberBV pays the driver via another subsidiary (Raiser in Australia)
Uber BV that subtracts the costs of running the business
Uber BV pays most of whats left to Uber International as royalty payment for using the App
UberBV has maybe 1% left after all that and pays tax on that
The catch is that royalties in Netherland is tax free

I got 3 charges on my Visa from UBER Canada on dates I was in AU. Disputed them with ANZ and they were reversed.

YMMV

Arriving in SYD T1 last Sunday night (4 May), walked directly to Uber and straight into a car.

Only people that had to wait were a couple with an obscene amount of luggage as they needed to order a Van.

QF staff waited behind me no cutting in line, mind you doing so would have saved perhaps 2 seconds only.

Does anyone know what's the difference between UberMAX and Uber XL in Melbourne? i've read some ppl got just a Camry when ordered UberXL which shouldn't be the case as I'm travelling with a group of 5 pax with 3 large suitcases. As it's a trip to the airport to catch a flight, I wouldn't want any drama getting an uber which ended up having to cancel and wait for the right size vehicle, adding stress to my trip. Any advice welcome!

Uber XL should be 6 seaters (incl the driver). Typically for me these have been larger SUVs with the extra row of seats set up, if needed. Uber Max (which I’ve not seen before) looks to be for 7+, so more like a people mover van. Either could be tight when it comes to luggage, but I’d expect with just 3 large pieces across that number you’d be ok.

Perhaps also check the price on booking 2 x comfort vs 1 x Max? There’s risk you don’t depart/ arrive exactly at the same time, but might be more comfortable and certainly no issues with luggage space either.

Cheers,
Matt.

Any idea what car would be an Uber XL? Also if car seat is needed for a toddler on Uber , or is it exempted?

Use this search, typing “Uber XL” into the vehicle make/model ride option field to find examples of car models by brand: https://www.uber.com/global/en/eligible-vehicles/?city=melbourne.

Unless the child/ren are over 7 or taller then 145cm, then it may be required that you have them in a child seat or restraint. A bit of a minefield this one, and varies by jurisdiction, so I won’t pretend to know your answer. I believe you can select options when booking to ensure you get a driver who has one.

Cheers,
Matt
