Just received the QF e-mail about the latest USA + Canada Red Tail Sale fare. Timely as just this week I was recalling that it was around the same time last year a similar sale dropped and QF in J from SYD --> US West Coast was starting at $5999, which is good value in the current environment.

I've paid attention and not seen a proper J sale to the US West Coast since then and certainly near that 6k mark (happy to be corrected).

Also not to be this year?

Admittedly lower than the exorbitant costs we've seen on these routes the last few years, but a cool 26.6% increase over the promotion last year. Sales can certainly drop at any time, but I'm not holding my breath.

First thought was also, "so much for the reduced travel to/from the US." Capacity has dropped a touch out of, e.g., Sydney, but not by much.

$5999 was SYD-YVR over a year ago (I booked that) and it was repeated one more time but it hasn’t been replicated since.

I don’t recall seeing US West Coast under $7k post Covid.

The current Sale has a good SCL J fare. Actually cheaper from ADL, BNE and MEL then the non-stop ex SYD.

I think the HNL PE fare is the same as I paid for an upcoming trip.

The SCL fare is indeed very good.

Just had a look at the ticket -- I paid $5999 last March for a trip in November of last year. It surprised me that it was so good, so I jumped.

I tend to go the same week in nov/Dec and the fares that I just checked were quite a bit lower than recently
No intended trips coming up due to a variety of reasons but the fares were better than recently I think

I do not recall seeing that Sale and I watch the them like a hawk to keep tabs on what’s a good fare to buy when I need one!

I shall make a note (easy with your username!) to let you know whenever I see something worth jumping at!

I booked PE for two people just last week to HNL. Flexible. $200 pp cancellation. Today I repriced it, will save $4000 to cancel and rebook. Which I've just done and the premium operator stayed on the phone while I rebooked to make sure the flights were all the same, then he cancelled the original. The price for one last week is the price for two this week. Even the operator was surprised. Thankyou Qantas.
