Qantas relaunching PER-AKL/JNB

why don't qantas take on a few of Jetstar's 787s? I
Qantas's 321XLR also divert some of the older 330-200s from domestic to international. Plus the A380 return and Sunrise aircraft arriving within 18 months and QFi has lots of possible expansion.

Jetstar 787s would in anyway need the refurb that JQ is doing for its own purposes.

QFi to QFi transit in SYD is fine but obviously a one stop option ex AKL to Europe is nice. As will PER-AKL-JFK.

Probably a coin toss flying AKL-Oz-JNB? Some will prefer the SYD F lounge (as applicable). Many others may like to break the journey somewhere closer to the middle.

The HNL move to pull JQ might be a hint of some future arrangement with HA once they join OW?

It’ll be interesting to see where they redeploy JQ B787s? KUL? 😉

KUL would be a good idea

what a330-200 routes do you reckon Qantas's 321XLR will replace, just domestic or some international as well?

With the first series of 321s just domestic.
Remember the first batch of 321XLRs are only recliner business and BYO IFE.

The 332 fleet will shrink from 16 to 10 refurbed aircraft with the latest setback 4K IFE and seats in Y, so these will likely go on international routes.

Suspect this will mean the only widebodies flying domestically from say 2027 will be the 787s from SYD/MEL-PER enroute to LHR/ FCO etc.

Plus maybe a couple of flights to rotate the 332s operating AKL-PER-JNB (assuming that flight is a success)
