Wadis, Peaks, Souqs and Sands: Oman 2025

Brilliant TA 1022. Some friends of ours have been to Oman a couple of times and keep recommending it to us.

The comment about twin beds made me smile. When we arrived at the Radisson in Livingstone last year I asked if it was ok that the room only had one bed. The look of surprise on the face of the lovely lady who checked us in was priceless and her comment "why, do you want a twin?" was delivered so warmly.

For our Nairobi Best Western booking I didn't bother with requesting a twin room but for both of the hotels in Mobassa I have taken the cautious route and booked twins. We don't want to put the staff in an uncomfortbale position as much as us. Not sure what will pan out during the safari itself. Tapestry knows we are a gay couple.

My most surprising offer of a double instead of a pre-booked twin room was in Isfahan, Iran of all places. Just a very straightforward enquiry from a receptionist who clearly clocked we were a couple. To be fair, the Abbasi Hotel is one of the campest buildings I think I’ve ever stayed in! Liberace must have been on the design team.
