Gosh. I can’t work it out. The TA people would have their cabins. Perhaps the suites weren’t sold out but TA had blocked them? I only know of one outright cancel and they were in a cabin like ours.

Called a sky suite. Butler. . Haven’t told MrP that bit.

Usually the cruise line inventory team blocks out a number of suites when they have oversold the middle band (balcony), rather then a TA blocking them. Most TA's have to give back group allotment 120+ days out.

You will enjoy the suite benefits, including dining at Luminae. Better food, more intimate.

Our first Shinkansen is tomorrow. Tokyo to - KYOTO. Missed you by that much. . And weather looks truly rubbish tomorrow. No Fuji.

So, the person who cancelled outright came back with why they did it.

1. She said they doubled their money. (I don't get her logic, she simply got refunded for the cruise she is no longer taking and has a voucher for a new one)
2. They were going to be travelling with family members but those members had to cancel. This seems to have worked so much in their favour.

But I still don't get why they think they 'doubled their money'.

I can't answer the question but could she have got 50% discount on original booking and got a voucher for full price (double cash value) on another cruise?

Well presumably because they now have their money back and a voucher for the same value to do another cruise

For example old cruise refunded $10,000 in their pocket. And $10,000 to be applied to a cruise they wanted to take anyways. So $20,000 worth of value for $10,000.

I think it’s just a voucher for money that you put on to a cruise. Any cruise. I did read it must be taken before April 26.

But - they don’t receive anything for the $10000 they paid. They just get it back so neutral position. Then - they get the voucher for $10000. Which is an amount we are assuming they paid anyway.

Haven’t heard of anyone getting 1 accepted. Maybe they were satisfied with this one cancellation?

I have not suggested to them that I reckon their thinking is flawed. Makes them happy thinking of it like that but someone will eventually say ‘hey what?’

Well when they were booked on the cruise their bank balance was say $X. After cancelling it is $X+10000. Then a future cruise voucher for $10000 dollars Now if yo wanted to book another cruise you effectively have twice the money to do so than what you had to book the cruise you had just cancelled.
Now it depends on the cruise line but when we have had future cruise vouchers from Silversea for cancelled cruises we were able to use them for cruises already booked but not paid for in full.
However if you have to book a completely new cruise these days it is invariably more expensive than the one you have just cancelled.

So you had $10000 to book a cruise. As a result of cancelling you now have $20000 to book a cruise. So to me that makes sense that you think you have doubled your money.

By forgoing an experience. If I have a trip booked and paid for $10K and had to cancel, and got refunded by travel insurance, I would never think 'yippee, I'm $10K ahead'; I'm simply back to my starting position. Add in a bonus compensation and I'm $10K ahead, not $20K.

You might consider you have doubled your available money but not absolute funds.
