I know the redevelopment of Cairns domestic airport is not complete yet but after passing through it again today it seems that it is not particularly well designed.

There is a long walk from the rental car return to check in and then another long hike back to the departure area.

Tried the new Qantas lounge and thought it was disappointing as well.
It seems not as much thought went into it's design as some of the capital city lounges.

Perhaps my thoughts were influenced by the day I had (not good) but would be interested to hear what others think.

The airport has been a disaster since they began the renovations more than TWO YEARS ago - put on the market for sale by the government, budget cuts to the renovations, more than doubling the car parking costs, charging a taxi levy etc etc.

Hopefully they will fix the problem with the hire cars when the terminal is completed, but that is not scheduled until late 2010...

The QP here is a huge improvement - you get a view of the runway! :D:rolleyes: I think there has not been a huge investment as more and flights out of Cairns are being fobbed off to Jetstar or Qantaslink as I assume Cairns is seen as a leisure destination ...

Cheers
Mark
