I heard of a few new things coming to Tiger. And about time too.

Boarding is to be done differently. Similar to what Southwest does, expect in Groups, A to G. G is for those who have not selected seats. I understand this is to put pressure on those always last to select their seat next time. This is also allow for different seat selection prices. As in different parts of the aircraft being priced differently. For example, areas such as the very back which are not popular with Seat Selection can be picked for only $1. AirAsia have started doing this with "Hot Seats" in the first 7 or so rows starting in row 2.
Anything is better than the shambles that it sits at now.

Heard a whisper about WebCheckin to. AGM is tomorrow.

It explains the different coloured seat selection system, with different payments for different seats of course, that I noticed today on the website.

Without having ever flown Tiger or having any plan to do so, the perception I have is that any change will be an improvement.

Sounds like to me that not enough people were paying to preselect seats, so make some of the aircraft cheaper to preselect. Or is now going to be compulsory to pay to preselect seats?

Totally disagree!

I fly Tiger quite a bit, including in Asia, and find that all I have to do is ask for a good seat at check-in (obviously because very few are pre-assigning seats).

Never get refused, always get a good seat (eg row 1 or exit) and it doesn't cost a cent.

So how are these changes going to be for the benefit of pax? It's just revenue raising.

Another reason (apart from that awful "Budget" terminal at SIN) to fly Jetstar, I think.

I fly a bit to Great Kepple Island and Townsville so the new fares from Marc are looking very tempting. I'm not expecting anything as good as Virgin though.

Dare I open a can of worms.

There are some very narrow perspectives being expressed here :!:

The way Air Asia do it works pretty good - if you purchase priority boarding then you get let on the plane first to sit where you want....then the remaining PAX are let on to fight over what is left.

Is there some kind of law here that all PAX must have pre allocated seating?

Last time I flew Air Asia, they have scrapped the priority boarding system. THey now have preallocated seating, which comes in three shades - 1) pay to allocate a seat on the plane, 2) pay higher than this to allocate premium seats (exit rows/front of cabin) or 3) pay nothing and get what you are allocated at checkin.

Wrong sort of Changes.
This year Tiger got NO international business from me - outsmarted by AirAsia and JQ.
Perth, as a hub, seems to me, a failure. By the time I pay for PER with luggage, there is no value proposition , no $79 Darwin, $129 or even $169 deals but heaps more $$ - making it a deal breaker. Not being able to type in MEL>SIN online for a price - silly.

I see SIN to PER around Xmas day is peanuts, but the other way HUGE bikkies. And no incentives for buying a return ticket.

Fartassing over seat selection is dumb. Their counter staff are are overwhelmed with issues, and compound delays. I wont pay for seat selection if I think boarding times are not punctual - or my last experience was unpleasant.

They should have new policy 'pay $50 more' and our gals at the counter will treat you right.
