Future of Qantas

I've heard speculation that First is being scrapped on 744s.

If it's true, then Alan Joyce certainly isn't living up to his "premium airline" promise.

FANTASTIC!! Finally.... that 2 week 'mistake trial' was great - hopefully its done before Xmas.

+1 Can't wait for pre-assigned seating the most :p

All the rest sounds great, plus the rollout of the 31 new 737s with AVOD it feels like they have some really solid and good plans for QF - finally!

Priority security +100!!!!

Well it'd mean more J seats in that space, might make for a refocus on a different premium.

So it can cause headaches for the 'silly season'. I have several flights booked in December so i'll keep an eye on them and hopefully the select seat option in MMB will work. Be interesting to see how well it works after the first cough-up :)

Negative much? Sure it will be fine for xmas :) - I actually did very well in the 'mistake trial' and was really annoyed when they retracted it.... I loved that mistake haha

I prefer the term 'eternal sceptic' ;) I hope it does work when it is rolled out. I guess if they don't tune it right, it is going to annoy the WP's who fly at the drop of a hats notice and don't end up with their seating preference. Let's see if QF have tweaked Altea well enough. Their yield management is one of the best in the industry, so maybe this will flow through to pre-allocation of DOM seating (see, I do see some possible silver lining ;))

I wonder if the rollout will include a fix to partner elites entering their FF number ??? when purchasing online?

I suppose as long as MMB will allow entry..........

If one has no expectations there can be no disappointments.

Wandering again

Depending on how it is rolled out, this has the potential to be very bad for FFrs on domestic flights.

Will not be pleased if this means that a NB who books a fare a month out gets better choice than a WP booking a flex fare a day out.
If the advance seat selection trial for domestic flights back in June is any indication then it is almost guaranteed that many high status frequent flyers will end up further back in the cabin.

Qantas is continually diluting benefits for top tier frequent flyers and almost every decision or announcement lately has given the impression that Qantas wants to be more like a LCC and treat all passengers the same. Jetstar anyone?

Umm - you've gotten a bunch of op-ups on cheap fares. You do status runs on other airlines. Whilst you might have top-tier, what do you contribute to QF's bottom line compared to someone who flies J/f SYD-LAX or SYD-LHR?

My experience over the past two years, is that (in the past 24 months) I've directed a lot more spend directly to QF in the past 12 months. In both years I've gotten about 2500 SCs (and only about 200 due to YUPs etc). But in the past 12 months I've been very well looked after by QF. Part of that might be the GFC. The rest is probably due to Altea. They can make better decisions now about how much you are worth profit-wise.

You get your promised benefits, and above that it's optional and based on your worth to QF.

Well lucky you. I have in the past 3 years been in the 2.5K to 3K range for SC's (for which Mrs kiwial is thankful) and likewise no YUP's. Almost all has been at the more expensive end of the bus, however no op-up's for me on 3 class aircraft nor on the couple of Y trips I have made on QF- no additional recognition whatsoever from QF, only the stated benefits and no more.

I will say however, that on the couple of CX flights I have had, they couldn't have done more for me and one was in Y. That was one of 3 op-up's I've had, the others being NZ and SQ, both on discounted Y.

I'm not complaining, far from it. QF service has been by and large good, however there are other carriers that go the extra mile and I couldn't say that of QF. I get what I pay for and no more.

Does anyone know the date for when QF will turn on advance domestic seat selection??

Can anyone speculate on how the new checkin proposals will affect partners travelling on the same ticket when going through the terminal?

Is anyone thinking that QF will go down JQ's path and start doing self-tag bags at all?
So basically removing the checkin-area, all done by the passenger by them selves, who are being assisted by those QF staff who help at the kiosks?

QF have already stated a planned move to electronic bag tags for QFF's that would allow this.

Okay thanks for that then, but i was more wondering what will happen for the bronze and non-frequent flyer members. (ie a print out from the actual machine like the bag tags we have now?)
