Comm Bank to issue AMEX... changes to QF/Velocity point earning

Strictly speaking of QFF or KrisF reward.

Westpac, Nab and anz offer the similar product with similar price. (~$295)
The disadvantage of having CBA is the capping ($15 cheaper annual fee at $280)

CBA card's capping is ridiculous for QFF as an annually spending of $40000 (60000 QFF) will already bring you to the first tier cap and thus rendering the card extremely uncompetitive. (3 points per $1 and the first tier cap at 120,000).

So if you want to earn FF points and spend over $40000 annually on Amex, then change provider...to the other big 3.

Well, received the card today

Me too.

I exhausted most of my big ticket Amex spend last week on the Krisflyer while it was still 3:1,with the end of month bills and a ATO bill to pay the timing was perfect.

Now to plan for this new card. I should be able to stay under my remaining 160k cap for this year (about 40k spent on my old, back-up comm m/c). I will then have 200k of Amex spend for January before my renewal date in February and just in time for the next ATO installment.

I'm not sure what to do with my non-Amex spend from now on,
either continue with the Krisflyer or back to the trusty Citibank Plat?

how did you pay the ATO on your cc?

I asked my accountant a million times if this was possible, and got told no....

I paid $20k about 2months ago:(

Thank you for your informative response. Are the other banks ratio to QFF Points going to be 2 to 1 as well ?

And I have an additional cardholder, I heard one bank charges nearly $90 For that ?

I should really research myself,,! :D

Depends on what you like and what is your goal. Everyone has different needs and wants, thus no single card will satisfy all. In my opinion, I will not pay more than $15 for an additional card(s). And Mr. Diesellife is currently enjoying my free supplementary card from NAB.

GRRRR I am so damn frustrated by CBA,

i enquired about a week ago about the whereabouts of my amex card via phone,

got told, that it was being processed and its only a matter of time before i get it,

in my netbank messaging it said, application made,

today i go into a branch, enquire as to my card,

got told there is no record of it and it may be because I made the request online..I was like WTF!!!

so I had to fill out an application form omn paper this time... and got asked, would you rather wait for the card to come or submit a new application......

I m so damn pissed, so my option is to wait for a card that doesn't even appear on their system but it does on mine, and with notes on my account

OR

to submit another application, this time by paper which will proabbly get lost and wait another 6 weeks.................

Well when did you apply online?
The card centre people told me that there is limitation of how many cards can be printed a day... something like 3000 a day or so... And the first batch is the print platinum only, then gold, then normal.

If you have the platinum, then you won't need to wait for long...

I applied about 3 and a half weeks ago, and I have a platinum card,

just to be sure I tried to apply again but got the message that Ive already applied,

the branch staff told me that I only applied about 2 weeks ago,

but I have evidence in my netbanking messages that says amex card applied for on Date 3.5 weeks ago,

what is wrong with the CBA, they can't even look at what date I even applied !!

Quick question here.

If you get the Amex CC from Commbank, can you set it up to be cleared at the end of every month, even if your normal banking (eg, Westpac/NAB) is with someone else?

Just applied for the new platinum cards today... looking forward to additional points until Feb 1st

Well... I've just got a standard account. I applied on 19th October and received my card on 6th of November. 15 working days apparently?

Also, I tried to use my Amex + pin at Woolies and it wouldn't let me enter a pin and sent me straight to having to sign. Weird?

The machine looked dodgy so maybe it was just not working properly or is this some kind of known problem? If it's a known problem is there a simple solution? Like call the bank? haha...

None of the Woolies-owned (WW, Big W, BWS etc) EFTPOS terminals accept a PIN for Amex or Diners at this stage :)

I actually emailed them asking why a couple of months ago, and here is their response:

I am writing in response to correspondence you submitted via the
Woolworths web site dated Monday September 21st 2009 in regards to the
use of a PIN while using an American Express Credit Card.

Woolworths is a very enthusiastic supporter of PIN verification for card
transactions. Woolworths was one of the few interested merchants
involved in the PEN or PIN industry taskforce, and since the launch of
the PEN or PIN campaign Woolworths has actively promoted this initiative
in its stores.

Woolworths have over the past few years invested heavily in its EFTPOS
payment network to ensure the highest level of security and to meet the
requirements for chip card technology which is also being introduced.
Unfortunately, AMEX is currently not in a position to support PIN
verified transactions from Woolworths using this technology. Woolworths
is discussing this matter with AMEX, but at present this issue remains
unresolved. Other credit card scheme providers such as VISA and
MasterCard are able to support this and Woolworths is pleased to be able
to accept PIN verified payments from these providers.

We thank you for your patronage at our stores and for your support of
the PIN on credit initiative, we are working with AMEX to be able to
rectify the situation as quickly as possible.

So no bug, just a software upgrade required that they haven't written yet :p
