Qantas Original Routing Credit due to Involuntary Rerouting

I can confirm that an ORC will adjust eligible sectors (just had one processed and went from 2 to 4 red planes). Unfortunately “~” squiggle annotation was enhanced years ago so you can only tell by the 4x red plane counter.

I agree. This is what happened for my ORC request too (which is how this thread started).

I'm sorry, I don't see how this is relevant to my query?

My itinerary was SYD-MEL-HBA, changed to direct SYD-HBA, requested both missing leg ORC and DSC in the one email. Is that not what you asked?

Hi. I understand about requesting the missing leg ORC and DSC. I was asking specifically about the extra sector being credited towards the required 4 Qantas flights needed to retain/attain status level. My account has only been credited one red airplane, but it should be two if the original flights were flown. DSC's are great but I also need that extra airplane or else I'm going to have to pay for another flight I that shouldn't have to. Did you get the extra flight sector they dropped credited to your required 4? That would be reassuring!

Has your request been processed?

As per my previous comment (on the other thread?), when they replace one flight with the original two flights you should see automatically 2x eligible sectors, as well as the relevant points and SCs for each sector. You should also see your SCs towards QF Loyalty Bonus increment accordingly etc.

If that didn’t happen (getting the additional eligible sector), fire off another email.

Update- Within two hours I got a reply email that the ORC has been processed. I checked and the extra little red airplane was credited, but not the DSC! More emails then.

DSC show up automatically and sometimes not at the same time. Give it a day or so. It almost feels like someone runs a script at a certain time of the day and eligible DSC flights all get pushed through at the same time.

If after a little bit it hasn't then feel free to contact again.

I've never had DSC show up automatically when there's ORC involved.

Yes, when the ORC is credited you get the segments for the additional flights.

Keep it succinct, get results.
I copied your message and wondered why it had been a week without any reply.

It's @qantas.com.AU. Silly me for not confirming.

When messaging the correct email you'll get an auto-reply.

Took them 2.5 days to reply and issue me the additional status credits and points.

I didn't send them the original e-ticket as I didn't have it (travel agent).

I gave them the PNR and all 3 boarding passes (two un-flown CBR-MEL-PER, and the flown CBR-PER direct flight) and that was enough. So it seems they don't need the ticket number (at least for domestic on QF)

What was your with respect to needing to claim ORC? Were you impacted close to departure or some time before where you accepted a reroute?

The flight was cancelled ~6h before departure.

I was impressed by qantas' website that lets you pick different flight options. They put me on a flight via Sydney first, but I selected the direct flight instead.

Wondering if I should ask at the airport to stick with my original delayed indirect flight rather than be rerouted to direct. ORC seems a big pain from this thread.

If it's a domestic flight on Qantas, absolutely take the direct flight. It's very easy to get the orc.

For other situations.... I can't comment

Adding a data point: due to a delay on my inbound QF flight, I missed a QF codeshare operated by LATAM connection in premium economy. I was accommodated on the next flight but it ticketed only as an LA flight number (no QF SCs) and downgraded to economy as premium economy was full.

E-mailed the address on this thread last Friday at 15:07 with original ticket and boarding pass of actual flight flown. Received a response from QFF confirming SCs and points of original flight had been credited at 15:56, and upon immediate review they were.

Pleasantly stunned, to say the least.

ORC seems a big pain from this thread.

Have said it before on AFF and I'll say it again: ORC is not a pain at all. Don't listen to the fear-mongering. Just keep your BPs and e-tickets and clearly explain the situation in writing with all documentation. Getting DSC applied on ORC can sometimes take a follow-up if the agent crediting the ORC hasn't read the email in its entirety.

I will happily take a re-route and spend 10 minutes drafting an email if it results in shaving hours off a journey. In fact when I get a schedule change notice on an indirect journey, I usually see it as an opportunity to convince Qantas to accommodate me on a direct option - even if MCT is technically met but it's a tight connection, or if an earlier departure or delayed arrival time is involved (which is just not going to work with my busy schedule! ;) )

Would have lodged 12-15 involuntary change ORC claims over the years and never had a claim denied.

From what I've read on AFF, most who have ORC denied are either missing documentation, don't clearly articulate that it was an involuntary change, or waffle on with excessive emotive language.

Sorry about that. Unfortunately I can't go back and edit now as the post is too old. Hopefully a moderator is able to - have self-reported my post. Mods have fixed.

Of your 12-15 involuntary changes, how many were situations where you accepted a reroute days, weeks or months in advance, as to opposed to within, say 48 hours of departure (including the day of)?
