After parting ways with Hyatt, MGM (which is the largest operator of casinos in Vegas) has signed a new deal with Marriot allowing reciprocal benefits. This is good timing as the changes to MGM Rewards this year are terrible and make it extremely difficult to retain any status if you aren’t US based - making Bonvoy a much better option.

With any luck they will introduce status matching between MGM and Marriott and vv (ala the old Hyatt relationship).

I guess if there's points transfer and status recognition (vs status matching) that pretty much achieves the same effect. The MGM casino hotels will be treated as Marriott hotels on its website.

It sounds to me they're leaning more towards recognition as Marriott has signed a separate deal with Bet MGM (the sportsbook arm). But will you be able to put your Marriott card into an MGM pokies machine? I'm thinking probably not - so maybe there has to be some kind of match.

Similar but not quite the same as status matching. The perennial but now defunct Hyatt status match meant you could maintain your Gold/Explorist status in both programs without ever stepping foot in a Hyatt or MGM property. You just needed to time when you matched each program due to the differences in their qualification windows.
