I was trying to get seats released to the UK in Sep-Oct this year at around the time they were released last year. I questioned why they could not be released as it was well outside the Northern Summer period holidays. I seem to recall the agent informing me she could not see seats that could not be released until some time after Oct 23 minus the odd 1 or 2 days, In the end I gave up. I had another go earlier this year for Apr 24 and was declined and when talking to to the agent it was mentioned that seats to the UK are in high demand and the bot knock back and the ability for agents to to seats that can/not be released just keeps on getting extended. As @chooms mentioned going the long way round could be an option as is the +10% QF penalty for using CX, JL or any other partner airline. The request was for late October this year. Post school holidays.
I'll give them a call again today.
Took me a couple of days IIRC to get an email with either a yay or a nay.I did end up calling again a few hours ago and told me that my previous request is currently being reviewed and I'll receive an email. Before I called I did see a PNR under my bookings with it being "On Request". Any ideas when I'll hear back?
Just keep checking the booking periodically. If they confirm, the status will appear as CONFIRMED. If they don't, the status will remain ON REQUEST.Took me a couple of days IIRC to get an email with either a yay or a nay.
Before they used to say I'd be called with the result. I've never been called.

My only year as P1 is going swimmingly well.
As a follow up, I didn’t end up even trying…. Heathrow was a mess and I just wanted a shower and a coffee. No BA showers were available the entire time I was in the F lounge before my next flight. And I reckon the aircon was off too…An interesting update to my booking on the BA website (I have an AA booking LAX-LHR-MUC) that has seen lounge change from the BA First lounge to mentioning Concorde Room. As far as I’m aware, as a QF P1 on AA metal in PE and then BA euro whY, I wouldn’t get access to Concorde Room at LHR. But the info on the booking has changed. I do note the caveat re BA Premier though… but is that because of my P1 attached to the booking?

Yes that’s definitely within their remitIs it possible use the P1 line to try and get seat assignments for a friend in Y on the same flight? Long shot....

I'm still intrigued about the Concorde Room showing! Surely just a mistake but would be lovely if a new perk was on the way*. Perhaps something to do with Chelsea access at JFK for JFK-AKL flights (would be great if this was coming)?
*Not holding my breath
Anyone visiting T5 willing to give it a whirl? Otherwise I wouldn't mind quizzing them in October when I'm there.
Requested J SYD-LAX in the middle of November. Will see what they say.
An F award is always worth it!Came back confirmed! Didn't think F was worth it this time around.
