<start pseudo rant>
Two examples of idiocracy today that I've seen:
Applied for IRIS automated entry into the UK. I'm allowed to enroll based on my LTR in the UK. Immigration officer didn't want to enroll me, and didn't even know if my visa was eligible for enrollment. He asked someone else who shrugged his shoulders, and then tried to look for the operations manual. He couldn't find it, so denied me enrollment, and suggested I try again on my next trip (when I'll definately be eligible due to 2 entries to the UK in 6 months).
The operations manual is online, and it definately states that people who are allowed LTR for > 6 months are eligible. Tempted to print it out and return, but don't want to annoy him too much, as he still has the right to deny me for any reason he chooses, and if he officially denies me then it will put an interesting flag in my immigration record.
Tried entering the Cathay Lounge, but was denied due to being on a BA flight. Thanks lounge dragon "Simon". Could have argued about it, but he eventually would have denied me due to 'capacity' reasons or similar, so again not worth the bother.
Aaah it's all fun. Now in the BA Galleries lounge (which is ok, but not great) waiting for another 30 mins or so till my flight starts to board. We're being bussed out apparently (yay), which is always something fun on a trip.
