They're both in the DHA examples for Gels - as is soft cheese

I was surprised too!
Actually it was a tube of Vegemite. It was considered a gel and was 110mL. I never even thought about it being 'against the rules' and had it in my carry-on so it wouldn't get all over my clothing. I offered to suck out 10mL, but no go. I thought it was very unAustralian!

I once flew from Lyon to Berlin, trying to bring home some good French cheese (carry-on only). I had to throw out all soft cheese, as it is spreadable and therefore counts as a liquid. I was allowed to keep the hard cheeses...

This is the case for all liquids and gels, it's the capacity of the container that matters, not the actual contents (since it would be very hard to measure this in most cases, but it's easy to look at the capacity markings).

The smallest is 145g (that I can currently find). And its called Vegemite travel pack tube

harsh and I think untrue - I had the best time working on that contract in NZ (to be fair there were a lot of internationals there as well which is why the vegemite thing probably went flat)

On my very first trip to the USA, en route to visit my sister and her family in Canada, I was carrying a jar of Vegemite for them. At Passport control at LAX, I answered all the usual questions etc and then the final question was “how do I know you’re really an Australian?" I simply opened my carry-on and said "I’ve got my Vegemite with me".
