The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Is there anyone on this thread who can help escalate or help the OP with the frustrating run around she has experienced? I had understood that Qantas had brought in a new process so that someone who has called the call centre multiple times and spoken to countless different employees gets triaged to the Hobart call centre?
well, the latest article that mentions this says this is some sort of future planned "enhancement" - the current dedicated team is for ticketing issues with partner awards and so on, and it seems they have an autoreply saying they won't deal with anything else unfortunately....

It may be worth pulling this thread out to form a new thread perhaps so it may get some more attention as this is more complex than a "newbie" question imo

I have just booked my first reward flight in business to Noosa (flying into MCY). What a buzz😀. During the booking process I navigated to seat selection and tried to select the first row. But the system wouldn’t allow me to select a seat. Is thus typical or did I do something wrong.

Secondly, which domestic lounge do I have access to. I am bronze QF FF flying on Qantas not Jetstar. As an alternative , my Westpac altitude card provides for two lounge passes a year. Would this be a different lounge to the Qantas domestic lounge. Can you elaborate and which would you choose.

Finally, I booked my flights late last night and today checked my booking to find there had been a schedule change. I couldn’t believe it! How often do you check your booking for schedule changes?

Row 1 is usually blocked for higher status pax until T-80 hours before scheduled departure time, so you can wait until then when all unallocated seats open up for selection...

As a Business class pax, you'll have access to the Qantas Domestic Business Lounge in SYD or MEL in addition to the Qantas Club (but there are no lounges in MCY). Does the pass specify which lounge it's valid for?

From where.
Award J would have access to the QFd J lounges.
Your BP will show Business so you dont have to link passes.
If the plane was all Y, ie Dash8/a320 QFlink, then the bank issued passes are an option.

The plane is a 737. departing Melbourne. Can you explain further when the bank issued passes are an option.

where is the Qantas domestic lounge located. Assume this is after security. Can you provide directions.

Some planes that QFlink flies do not have a J cabin.
Dash8 or some of their 717s.
Your bank credit card gives out 2 passes, eh?
So you could use them for the Dash8 eg SYD - CBR, couldnt you?
Probably not worth it, but to each their own, is it worth it, for eg.

The fact you are flying J means you don't need to use bank issued passes. You are automatically in the lounge. Save the bank passes for a time you are in economy.
In MEL the lounge is to the right after you go through security and not far. And easy to see. Make sure you use the business lounge, not the club as it will be nicer. Both up the escalators. I think business lounge is to the left.
Have fun. When are you going?

Not a newbie, but can somebody explain the process of receiving the platinum welcome pack after qualifying from gold.. return time from Jakarta over two weeks ago and I'm still yet to see the welcome pack with baggage tags.. add a quick look at the Qantas website and it says that there still sending out these for people who qualify above their current status, I've checked my details and they correct in their system.. how long should I expect to wait for this pack to arrive

Since renovation, business lounge accessed via turning hard left (to airside) at top of escalators. Entry via the club no longer required.
Thanks I hadn't even picked up that the QF website hasn't updated to reflect this

Hi Rich — heading off in June for 12 days in Noosa escaping Melbourne’s cold winter. Using the business lounge will be a thrill.

Congratulations on booking your first reward and that it all went well.

And yes, Rows 1 and 2 typically (on a 737) are reserved for higher status passengers for pre-allocation so in general you would probably be only given row 3 as an option. As noted above you may be able to select a seat in row 2 or 1 within 80 hours of the flight departure if any seats are not taken at that point.

Two weeks is quite optimistic.

I'd expect the pack to show up within a month or so. I wouldn't panic at this point. :)

I guess if you get nothing after say 6-8 weeks then I'd consider contacting them.

So now it will show up tomorrow

Congrats on making WP!

Great to read. I was a bit worried we would lose when you started the "disillusionment" thread. I say "we" but I don't fit the same boat of many here. Proud Y flyer! But credit card lounge passes help with that.
I am not sure if row 1 in business is that much better than what you have and whether if it worth getting up in the middle of the night for, if that is when T-80 hits. I did recently set the alarm for 2 am for a MEL to ADL flight in the hope of getting row 4 Y. All 6 seats were available so the family of 5 appreciated my efforts!

My flight is mid morning. Looking forward to all the facilities in the lounge. A real thrill😀
ah, a shame you will miss the spice bar (starts noon) but still hopefully you can enjoy coffee/tea and breakfast spread and relax before your flight.

For Stargazer:
Take it like this, ok, if lets say I had the 2 bank issued lounge passes, and QF in their infinite wisdom have put, really, yes, put a Dash8 on ADL - MEL (QF2195) for the Jun ADL long weekend...
This is one of those planes that don't have a J cabin, you or I or anyone can buy the seat next to us, if we wanted the space.
Not saying the Dash8 can't/couldn't do ADL - MEL, but still, in a tin can like that, heh, tight squeeze.
Did CBR - SYD on a Dash8 once, wow, what an experience, yes, tight fit for a person of girth, but the plane flew lower than a 737, so good views as it came into to land over Botany Bay.
So, if I had those passes, and wanted to "drown my sorrows - with coffees", I would use them to get into the lounge, but of course, the flight leaves before noon, so still no grog served, ...
Just using an example.
