The final Boeing 747 to be built is scheduled to roll off the production line on Tuesday.

While this one is a freighter, it’s reported there are only 44 of the passenger versions remaining in service.

Indeed an interesting thought. I wonder how the line closures compare for passenger configured aircraft? Of course teh A380 never had a freighter version, and only ever had one model of the aircraft (A380-800), with the other originally planned models (shorter and longer) never coming to fruition. But this does show the longevity of the 747 family with all its different variations over the years.

Well the A380 line produced less than 300 airframes. B747 had more than 5 times the airframes and the freighters outnumber the A380z

But this does show the longevity of the 747 family with all its different variations over the years.

….and perhaps highlights Boeings reticence to develop new models, preferring to adapt existing airframes. Look at the 737 for example, first manufactured in 1967…and even then retaining the fuselage of the now 65 year old 707.
