QR withholding award seats from Qantas?

To add evidence to my view about Velocity being a much smaller pool of competition, it doesn't have 64K members on Facebook dedicated to collecting its points:

Which Velocity card regularly offers 130K+ sign up bonuses like Amex, 160K+ like ANZ and 90K+ like NAB?
A few months ago I got the Westpac Black at 90k in year one (may be a year 2 30k but I won't hang around for that). On top of that there was another 40k chucked in by Velocity (I assume).

This is a disgrace that QR are doing this for fellow OW airlines even if it is Qantas...

To be fair, Qantas does not make its premium award seats (PE/J/F awards on long-haul flights) available to partners (including Qatar Privilege Club) at the initial release date either.

(Heck, Qantas doesn't even make the seats available to its own Bronze members...)

YES TRUE - QF AWARD J seats to it's own members are harder and harder to come by

AND... the demand for award seats has rocketed, with so many hoarding points during pandemic, and wanting to travel now that restrictions have lifted...
Those who saw this coming - would have already secured many award seats.

What goes around comes around and QF are getting a taste of their own medicine.
For far too long we have been punished by QF for daring to travel on OW partners and now it seems the table has turned.
Of course for those of us with a stack of VA points or have switched to Avios it’s a bit of cream on top 🤣
QR currently doing a 30% bonus on points transfers too so I think I’ll take them up on the offer and shift a stack of my Accor points over
100% correct

what do we reckon? is QFF going to get access to these again or should I just give up on holding out for it?
Let’s see what happens after the World Cup.

Otherwise, how long before the VA hookup loses novelty value?

Aren’t VA and QR currently working on strengthening the ties?
With QF trying to block QR from more slots in Australia I think the feud is only going to get worse and push VA and QR closer

It‘s certainly difficult to read the tea leaves. It‘s strange that there are quite a few QR reward seats to Europe (albeit nearly all Y) this month and then barely any reward seats to almost anywhere in Europe in December and 2023. It’s especially odd that many of these currently available seats are to Doha during or just before the World Cup, even some J seats!

My uncertain bet is that QF & QR are reserving their decisions and QF will probably release more as time passes (and QR seats with QR‘s permission of course and god knows where that prickly relationship will go). Then again, if COVID doesn’t get worse and demand still outstrips supply then QF may just shun QFF members in favour of selling more QF revenue flights. Alan Joyce would be keen to make some profit ASAP post COVID. Then again, does QF have an obligation to release a certain number of seats in any event?

Sorry, that’s probably been no help at all but I can‘t see how anyone could put any odds on that bet.

yea, i've booked none QR ticket to UK for next year, my current plan is to keep the points I have in banked until QR becomes avail, grab it, then ditch out of the already booked one, then look for a return as the return is more flexible.

however the returns are just coming avail now and i'm wondering if i should just accept the fact that QR isnt going to be an option and book a good return

I wonder how many reward seats are booked as options? Many people would book a number of flights to keep dates flexible or as insurance against cancellations with a view to cancel the unwanted ones closer to departure. I also wonder if the cancelled rewards seats will then pop up for others to redeem or if QF just bin them and sell the seats? I understand that as long as you cancel rewards flights at least 24 hours before commencement of the first leg then it’s only a 6000 QFF point fee. Well worth it for peace of mind and flexibility.

That‘s for flights out of Oz though. I don’t think it’s quite that simple for flights back?

I can currently see availability in February for a J award LHR-….. BNE on the dates that I want.
I can see it on BA and QR.
It’s not available on AA (seeing Y Awards only), nor QF where I see nothing through DOH except RJ/BA not even sny QR Y Awards.
Haven’t checked VA but I would assume it’s available there.

Join Qatar Privilege club and start accumulating avios points. That is the only way you will get first grabs of the seats as opposed to waiting for the seats to show up on the QF website. If Qatar are not releasing award seats to Qantas, good on them!!!. Qantas made their bed a while ago.

Yep, that's what I'm doing right now. Bit odd to see 'FF RUBY' on the BP, but flying J and F, that doesn't matter, and will soon change 😊

Or join BA as I’ve done. Much easier to get and retain status and the Avios are transferable.
