Is Green really Green?

With the emphasis on Green Energy and transport how Green is Green, are we really taking into account the cost of production in terms of carbon output?

How do we recycle things like Solar Panel Panels and Li Batteries?

What do we do with Wind Turbine blades once they reach the end of their life as they are made predominately from composite materials that cant currently be recycled.




What do people on the forum think, should we be moving away from the so called renewables and heading down other alternatives such as Green Hydrogen or Nuclear?

The problem is that it is now entirely a political issue, and has nothing to do with facts, evidence or outcomes. Therefore, discussions always boil down to whether you are a Green Marxist Lefty or a Tory or somewhere in between eg classical liberal / libertarian.

The evidence is that, despite trillions of dollars being spent on "green" "renewables", CO2 emissions have not been reduced, and there is certainly no effect on climate.

Green hydrogen is not going to be easy.

Very high power requirements are needed to generate hydrogen which at the moment pretty much only coal can provide

I think Clarkson said it best on an episode of Top Gear maybe ten years ago; something like: “so we’re going to spend £60 billion in the next ten years, to delay the sea level rise of two feet, from happening in 2050 to happening in 2060.”

Personally, I think that whilst China (and India, Brazil, Indonesia…) continues to emit and pollute at current rates, anything we do is just pissing into the wind.

Now if you really want to get into it, greenhouse gasses are just the current headline story. The real issue is the total number of people and basic consumerist society, but that’s a bit harder to consider, so just give everyone different coloured bins and some solar cells and call it even, yeah?

*Whatever the verdict is, need to get the stuff out of the ground to make the batteries first, before the stuff powering the getting it out of the ground runs out…

Also, would be nice to not rely on 90% of our petrol being shipped in from overseas forever…makes us just a wee little bit vulnerable there…

In terms of recycling what do we do? Probably leave it to the materials engineers, humans are good at solving problems… in their fields of expertise.In terms of lithium ion recycling check out neometals on the asx. While booming lithium prices continue rewarding investors, the next big investment is tipped to be in the recycling space.

* No idea if fossil fuels will run out because I’m not a God. No idea if human induced climate change is a thing, because I’m still not a God. No idea if we can change anything in the climate because… I don’t have a crystal ball. People should probably refrain from saying “the evidence says” unless they are a scientist or are going to present the evidence. Clarkson must be a scientist ( although I thought he was just a professional idiot).
