Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Well, I'm prepared to "give points" for trying. Now to see if they balls it up.

Not only is the website and the app down, the call centre isn't recognising FF numbers - so if you call the VIP service team it doesn't even work because it just tells you you're not an eligible FF. What a joke.

OK, I think I have my answer.

To the extent that you know/can share, are management aware that overseas call centres are basically unable to handle complex reward itineraries? Or is this flying under the radar because it is such a niche issue?
They would be aware, but it is a niche issue, also since it's so complex, they need to learn and become experts on the basics first! Yes, it's annoying, but most are willing to learn, some aren't (but that's the same in any work place).

Was briefly able to log-in just now (saw my name and Points balance), then when I went to "My Account", prompted to log-in again.

One hopes you never get into a debate, because that point is a weak one.

IF QF has more flights than FJ, it ought scale its call centres accordingly, bearing in mind call volumes and median length of call.

Similarly, SQ only operates international flights, which by nature tend to be more challenging. I'd guess int flights see more frequent contact by phone from both travel agents and the general public compared to relatively simple one or two sector domestic flights.
I don't really care what you think, I'm not getting into debates with anyone. Facts matter.

“50% jump in sick leave”

I have spoken with some managers in my place of work.
There has not been in 50% jump in sick leave here and we deal with the sickest people. In fact the sick leave rate has been about the same month on month over the last year

Is this an indication of unhappiness within the Qantas workplace?.
They need to tell their staff to stop testing for COVID unless required by law. Don't test and self-identify as negative and the amount of sick leave should drop to pre-COVID levels or close to it. If people haven't got vaccinated and catch COVID and get sick they can only blame themselves at this point.

There has certainly been a massive increase at my work.
The data overall comes from the ABS, nothing to do with QF unhappiness.

Love to hear from others who will benefit. Positivity is healthy.
Woke up yesterday expecting nothing. I now have 2 passes to a business lounge and 250 SC towards retaining SG next year. Already requalified for this year. Might convince me to make a run for WP next year. All domestic travel out of regional port, I’ve seemed to have missed all the issues. Just weather delays🤷‍♂️

Who besides some international cabin/tech crew test for COVID? Obviously the ones with symptoms, but it's not a SOP to test before a flight for Domestic.

Tried to give my curious boss a summary of things, and he seems to be an anomaly with the offering... He's an Oct 2022 year ending WP member, and was offered the 15K points, not 30K. He hadn't yet taken or booked a flight to assure extension to Oct 2023 before this offer, so is grateful for that and the 15K... but also confused why not 30K if he's in that Jul-Dec range.

If Swissport, DNATA, Menzies, CSA, STAR and all the new companies couldn't handle the work, they shouldn't have accepted the tender. Yes Qantas got rid of their own in house employees, but ultimately these companies said they could handle the work and they couldn't, now it's up to Qantas to deal with their mess.
Seems you’ve forgotten rule #1 of outsourcing… you can only outsource the task, not the responsibility to do the task.

Because he's getting an extension. Those getting 30k have a year ending Jul-Dec 2023 (i.e. they already requalified without the need for a status extension)

Same. Damn this is so annoying, clearly they've been holding back releasing premium award seats as they usually do for this announcement to release them all in one go and now you can't even book them and/or take advantage of having early access if your a QFF. It's a kick in the face IMO.

Yes it's a bloody joke. you know what would be more valuable to their actual members if they started releasing seats in advance normally as they used to rather than this stupid PR large releases.

I hate how Qantas does these silly PR releases for reward seats (points planes, bulk drops like today etc) just give us better ongoing availability. Such as minimum of 2 (or 4) reward seats in each class on all flights.

Silly bulk releases like this only help the leisure traveller that wants to go "somewhere" and books based on availability but if you have actual plans for a specific date range and destination these drops are useless and cause more headaches.

Ah, OK - But he could still have done that, before the end of that promo.... In any event I shall happily tell him it's his own fault for not heeding my advice earlier in the year! 🤓

I bet not a single additional seat has been released in J or F for international - except perhaps Trans Tasman.

Well it seems the criteria is more complex than what's assumed in the thread. It could well be that because he hasn't booked a flight to retain WP that he gets lumped in with the 15k crowd. Perhaps the extra 15k is partly to try to make up a bit to those who booked a flight to retain WP and flew it that now they didn't need to do to get the extension that hasn't been extended again at this stage.

Nah there's a heap of them I just saw them briefly although can't book them :) as you can't bloody log on no doubt due to thousands of people who weren't even interested in booking one till they got that email.

I have friends who have not got 1200 SC or forward bookings to get that for the membership year ending 2022 but qualified for the status extension previously announced due to booking and taking a flight that have got 30k points with Jul-Dec 2023 year end.
