QF J to Several Cities in South America from $4,000 Return

These fares have been around for a while. Most require a long layover in SCL, which isn't all that convenient since you now need to apply through the Chilean embassy for a visa to enter Chile.

But presumably you could earn Delta status crediting said flight to them considering LA is a Delta partner?

For LA operated flights, yes. For QF operated, no.

Yeah having had to apply for a visa to Chile in the last few weeks, while the process isn't too bad, its far from an e-visa. You can apply online and get the visa in your email, but the whole process took a few weeks. But I did get J flights for around $4300 earlier in the year.

Yeah pretty much all of South America is now visa free for Australians except Chile which is our only direct gateway and Suriname (e-Visa though now). Paraguay and Brazil no longer need visas, Argentina has ditched the reciprocity fee (as did Chile and was visa free for a few mostly covid years). I did read Project Sunrise is looking at a direct flight to Brazil though.

I was used to the Chile reciprocity fee and would prefer to fly into BA except next year I'm on a charter that will depart from SCL.

I was also used to the reciprocity fee. It was a real pain this latest visa thing. I had to explain a few time I wasn't flying out of Chile the first time but boarding an Antarctica cruise ship, where they said they all leave from Ushuaia... Anyway once sorted out and despite my EZE-SCL-SYD connection being just 4 hours they insisted on me have a multi enbtry visa also.
I can see Qantas ditching the SCL flight and LATAM code shares, once they can connect with other One world airlines in Brazil. I'm thinking Sao Paulo more likely than Riuo though.
