Why check baggage for medication and not carry on ?

Of late there seems to have been many cases (bad pun) of lost checked cases. However I am unsure why people would put medication in their checked luggage not their carry on ?
I am curious, is it amount of medication? Or ?
Genuine question. I have numerous medications that are in my carry on luggage along with a doctor's letter identifying what I take
Carry on luggage has
Two changes of clothes
Cossies (if a swimming place and I am fat and challenging in some places to obtain again )
Kindle
Chargers
That kind of thing
So if my luggage is lost for a day or the whole holiday I can cope .

There was a time when I took a weeks worth of medication in my carry-on and the rest for three or four more weeks in my checked baggage. Thinking being that if the check bag didn’t arrive I'dhave a week to find alternatives at my destination. But I stopped doing it years ago for the obvious reasons.

I guess those without prior bitter experience might just throw their medications in a checked bag without thinking.

All essential medication in carryon. Things such as paracetamol usually in checked baggage as you can get it nearly everywhere.

My carry on includes all my prescription medication as well as a limited supply of disposable contact lenses, so even if my checked luggage is delayed, I can still look good for a week or two!

Essentials in my carryon inc a change of clothes. I went to a work conference recently and carried my gala dinner dress with me for just in case.

I also split hubby and my clothes into two different bags so if one check in bag goes missing, we each have a bit of everything for the trip.

I think people who maybe don't travel much put medications in checked luggage not thinking about possible delays. With the media around lost luggage though I am hoping more people are packing essential things (including medication) in their carry on. My son had his medications in checked luggage for a cruise once, and it wasn't delivered to the cabin by the time he needed it. I think he went to customer service and had it expedited but he has learned his lesson - only needed to get burnt once.

Like most, I carry essential stuff. But aren’t there some countries (in the ME?) that can be problematic with some medications - even in transit?

I’ve got into the habit of carry scripts (even on short trips) - Oh poo! I just realised as I typed I didn’t on my current one!

I suspect it's probably not seasoned travellers and of the seasoned ones maybe they are not match fit.

I always carry medications for the length of the trip in my carryon. I have a change of clothes and all that I'd need for a day or two in case bag goes AWOL

I thankfully dont take any regular medication, but when heading to South America I always take my travels meds in carry-on.

At a minimum in carry-on I always have 1-2 change of clothes , warm jacket or Swimsuit depending on destination as cant always easily get a replacement that fits in my size (especially if you are visiting somewhere where the locals are of the very petite variety. Devices and chargers, and any paperwork in carry-on too.

Im also going to have two checked bags on this upcoming trip (so I have plenty of room for shopping in the USA on the way home) but outbound I will split my clothes between the two bags in case one bag arrives and the other doesnt. Even taking 2 lots of half sized tolietries to split between the bags.

i dont carry medication, but i usually put all my bathroom stuff in checked bags to avoid hassles at security, like taking them out, put in plastic bags and so on. I can understand why some people might do this with medication.

I cannot understand why anyone would put their essential medication in checked luggage. There’s always the chance of the baggage being delayed, or a remote chance of lost luggage. Anyway, I don’t take that risk and keep medication in the cabin.
