Lounge access Brisbane before Qatar Flight

At this point in time the Qatar airlines website is still showing that there is no access to the Plaza premium lounge (or any other lounge at Brisbane's international terminal - although none others open at 10:40pm QR's departure time).

QR's worldwide lounge website:

Access to the Brisbane airport QF lounges should be easy given you're departing on a one world flight and hold one world status. The last Qantas departure from Brisbane on that Friday is a 9:20pm flight to Darwin so I'd expect the BNE domestic lounges to be open until about 9pm.

It's also worth noting that the Plaza premium lounge is a pay to access lounge, this can be rebooked on the Plaza Premium website for $49 for 2 hours per person or a better value option is via the Dragon Pass app (there are ways to get a free membership - mines via Regus) where 3 hours access is 19GBP (works out at ~AU$33 per person).
Wow thanks Henrus, we’ll definately try QF first before the Plaza Premuim. Good tip on the dragon pass, I ‘ll check it out.

Only QF Plat and P1 get lounge access on arrival.
Assuming papeto holds an onwards boarding pass on Qatar Airways (either check in at Sydney or online check in) with oneworld status, according to the page below they will be eligible for Qantas club access. They'd be relying on departure access not on arrival access.

Oneworld rules state:

- You must be prepared to show your boarding pass and frequent flyer membership card, with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier status, to access a lounge.
- Access is available on the day of travel (or before 06:00am the following day), at the airport from which the oneworld flight on which the eligible customer is travelling departs.

So I'm flying out of BNE in J on QR and have QR Platinum, any chance I can access the QF lounge, at least until it closes at 9PM (Sunday in July)??

If not, other than PP is anything open in BNE intl at that time?

Yes, if it’s open anyone eligible can enter. There’s no other pay to enter lounges at BNE other than PPL

Yes, on all Sunday's in July the last flight is 9:20pm (to Darwin) except 17 July where the last flight is 9:15pm (to Melbourne). The QF lounges should therefore be open until about 9pm (essentially when the last QF flight is called for boarding).

As the QF lounges follow oneworld lounge rules, anyone with an onward oneworld boarding pass in business class (or boarding pass with oneworld emerald/sapphire status) can enter even if leaving from a different terminal. With the business class boarding pass you'd also be elgible for the domestic business lounge instead of the QF Club although sometimes they'll close the business lounge early on weekends.

The big catch is that you'll need a QR boarding pass so will either need to be checked in before a connecting flight to Brisbane or able to use online check in.

The Plaza Premium is the only lounge open at that time.

There is meant to be one restaurant/bar (although from personal experience occasionally this is closed) plus the duty free shops which will 100% be open.

Ah, I misunderstood, thought that the QF international lounge might be open/an option.
Looks like its PP for me (which SG gave me access to in March).

Given the lack of any other options seems like it might be wise to book PP?

Ah yeah, I was thinking of the old “My Lounge: Home of Virgin Australia” at BNE. Whatever happened to it anyway? I have no idea who the owner is now (I thought it was VA proper originally) and how it was dealt with after VA went into administration. Obviously VA aren’t flying long-haul right now.

Shame there are no QR premium lounges in Australia in any case…

"My Lounge" was never owned by VA to begin with.
No1 Lounges originally owned that lounge in BNE, also offering pay-per-use fees for other passengers not on VA or VA's partners (depending on room) and eventually sold that lounge to Swissport.

There's no given date by Swissport on when they are intending to re-open that lounge.

Agree contract lounge access will be important if they’re building out their network properly, given QR’s reliance on them. I’m guessing even in DOH, QR will treat VA status like oneworld and send them to the cough lounges when flying Y.

On the flip side, if you’re flying QR J already, VA status basically doesn’t add anything (assuming still no Al Safwa access unless you are QR own platinum).

Unlikely there will be status credits either if we go by recent partnership add/renewals.

There’s no reason QR flights won’t earn VA status.

Has anyone recently flown out of brisbane on Qatar and can comment on the lounge situation? Are they providing vouchers if lounge access isn’t available? Thanks!
Hi, we flew BNE to DOH on 7 June and as the flight was at 22:40, we were advised that the QF lounge had closed at 18:30 so no lounge access for us.

Just arrived at BNE, carryon only so got to the QF lounge early, was denied entry and told to go the the AirNZ lounge where Qatar now has an arrangement for J class passengers, couple of questions (as they weren’t expecting any Qatar arrivals until 19:40) and let in without trouble

So Qantas is once again breaching the oneworld policy.

The oneworld website clearly list the Brisbane International lounge with "Access for eligible customers traveling on any oneworld member airline."

Even on Qantas' own website they list "International Business oneworld® customers" as being allowed access:

They've also been denying eligible passengers flying on Emirates flights from Brisbane.

Sounds like it might be time for AFF to follow up with Qantas for an explanation as to why they're not following their own policy listed on their own website and if there is a policy change then I expect the Qantas website to be updated to reflect this in a very timely manor.

Yeah there was no real explanation given other than “we’re not fully operational at this point”, I probably would have pushed harder however she directed me to the airNZ lounge which to be honest is more than I was expecting

Out of interest what time did you arrive at the Qantas lounge?

Their own website lists Tuesdays operating hours as 5:30am - 9:30am and 2:30pm - 8:30pm. It'd be interesting if you went back to see if they still turned you away.

We arrived at the qantas lounge at 4:30pm, so it was open, she actually had a printout stating that Qatar had an agreement with AirNZ. AirNZ we’re really good as they weren’t expecting the first Qatar arrival until after 7:40pm (when baggage checkin opens). The AirNZ lounge is only being kept open of this single Qatar flight, they would normally close at 6:30pm as the last AirNZ flight departs at 6:55pm. It’s a strange arrangement, you’d think they’d pay for qantas to keep their lounge open rather than a star alliance lounge.

Is there anything to indicate that eligible status pax can enter or is it just Business passengers?

Not sure, they did have a printed list of eligible passengers on the flight, I assumed that this was just business passengers however it may have also included passengers with status… wouldn’t hold my breath though

I'm not flying until October. Crossing everything that the QF lounge will be fully operational by then!
