If I log onto my BA site and try to use points to fly from Sydney to Vancouver BC BA suggest I fly from Sydney to London to Vancouver etc. way too long and probably a two day trip. How can I use the points from BA to fly on another airline direct I’d like to fly business

Welcome to AFF @Graham Finn .

When I searched for SYD-YVR over a couple of dates for a paid fare I too could only get via SIN and LHR (because of course BA doesn't fly trans-pacific). Using Avios I got no availability. Then searching SYD-LAX with Avios I got direct Qantas flights come up, so the BA engine is finding Qantas flights. I wonder if the results you got is because there are no Qantas flights to YVR then (although I'd think it should bring up options via Japan)? You certainly can use Avios for various OneWorld airlines. International business class Avios seats would be in short supply anytime in the next 6 months, though and as much as 11 months out on popular routes, such as trans Pacific.

Possibly no availability

There is obviously a problem with BA. You should on the multi trip option be able to bring up SYD-HND-YVR.
It doesn't even though JAL is in one world. Even sillier if you try SYD-HND it sends you on BA to SIN then JAL to HND.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
