Remember when Skytrax upgraded Lufthansa to 5-star airline status in 2017, based on a new business class product that had not yet entered service and still doesn't exist even today? You know, just a short time after they paid a lot of money to Skytrax for consulting services?

Well, surprise surprise, LH has now been downgraded back to a 4-star airline.

I'm not really sure why they ever deserved to be a 5-star airline, other than for their excellent F product and ground services in FRA and MUC.

Our experiences vary of course but with one exception, 10+ years ago, I've always had a great time with LH (in J) soft product and mostly with hard product (J storage space on A380 is a 👎). I've had a couple of wonderful service recoveries, both at MUC as it happens (in line with your experience). I would have given 'em 4 1/2 stars; definitely not up to QR or SQ.

Bit surprised to see Asiana up there with 5 stars.

Don't get me wrong, I like Lufthansa and have had plenty of good travel experiences with them in Y, PE and J. But I don't think their hard product (especially in J) is worthy of a 5-star rating and the service isn't quite up to the high standard of SQ etc.

I think 4 stars is fair.

Skytrax is a scam and nobody with any credibility should be paying any attention to it.

LH is brilliant in F, I had some of my best flight experiences with them. When booking *A J to Germany I’d rather connect in VIE with OS or ZRH with LX, both do J better than LH IMO. Intra-EU they are all the same.

I don’t care for Skytrax rating but now that all 5* airlines are from Asia (plus QR from ME) the rating seems accurate.
