gee blaming people for arriving early now? that's a bit rich imo.

you arrive early you clog the system with your annoying bags.
you spend time in long security queues it's your fault because you don't know what you're doing (obviously) so you're clogging up the system with your annoying body.
you arrive late you cause delays potentially and disruption to deal with you
when exactly is "just right" GoldiAlan?

seems nobody can win with AJ no matter what you do you're not match fit :p

are the new staff actually resolving issues
not in my experience, Id rather wait on hold longer to speak to competent on shore staff member than offshore mind pearl agents who are not only useless but extremely rude, they wont let you finish explaining the issue just interrupt and spin BS.

Im now very confused

Qantas check in recommendations via their website:
"Check-in times
Online check-in opens 24 hours before your flight departure. We recommend you check-in early and allow yourself enough time at the airport. For the latest check-in times, please see the table below."

Alan said that Easter issues were due to people checking in early...

So do we check-in early or not?

He's actually contradicting himself. Back then he said people weren't 'match fit' i.e. not prepared and ready.

Now he's claiming the Easter delays were the result of people arriving early. Which is the opposite of not being ready, showing they were very 'match fit.'.

Further, he then claims the delays were the bags being held from early processing... which is an issue of the airline and the airport - and just normal processing. Passengers didn't turn up with exceptional unbooked bags on the day.

He's just ridiculous.

Th
They claim the wait times are down, but are the call centre staff now trained any better?
That s a key point. I would prefer to wait 1h and have the certainty that my request will be treated correctly, than waiting 5 min and feeling anxious the agent is going to f...up my booking, requiring multiple call to maybe get it tixed.

I now won’t travel without a laptop in case I get stuck somewhere even if it’s a short trip and I don’t expect to need it. I would think many others are the same and this would make security screening slower. Removing phone, tablet, laptop etc. and putting then away again always takes me time.

They could have helped alleviate the security issue by giving money to airports to upgrade to the new security scanners where you leave everything in the case. If every major airport had these scanners for all security lanes people would soon get used to them. Instead we still mostly have the old scanners where you have to take these items out.

It's no longer necessary to remove these items in some screening lines. Melbourne domestic for example has the newer ones where this isn't required.

OT but I think it's SIN and KUL are the only places in the world I have experienced (I am sure there are others) that require things like headphones and... WATCHES .... to be taken out/off and put in the tray. That one throws me when I forget about it and then get there...

CT scanners - can give a 3d image which will reduce taking stuff out of bags. But it is difficult to know whether it will actually be quicker. If you examine the actual bottle neck at airport security checkpoints, the bottle neck is at the xray and not the at the removal of laptop stage. Im not sure that viewing a 3D image which requires moving the images around 3 axes to properly view it is quicker than a 2d image. Additionally, significant amount of time is required to build the 3D image. This is because the CT scanner actually takes multiple slices and then reconstructs a 3d image via a computer.

My speculation is that it will make the process more accurate. Faster?. Not sure.

Alan now saying it's the airports' fault.

Is Alan Joyce capable of accepting any responsibility for Qantas' failures?

A good leader takes credit for the things they do well, but also accepts responsibility for their failures. A bad leader takes credit for things others do well, and blames others for their failures...

The buck stops with the CEO, does it not?

Can guarantee it’s not. Have been on the road for 3 weeks now, and have travelled PER-SYD-LAX-DFW-DCA-JFK-FCO in that time, and no two airports have had the same rules. Further, as a person with replacement knees since 2009, the same applies. I get the full body rub down, shoes, belt, watch, wallet, off which then takes 5 minutes to get dressed again, to the other extreme when I passed thru DXB and was asked to pull my trousers up and show them my scars. And to make matters worse, after all the drama, I then invariably get selected by the explosive person for a test, which just adds to the time and frustration of passing thru an airport.

But occasionally the old knee replacement doesn't hold you up. Notably RGN where it was obvioust the machine was not working - actually unplugged. So no alarm and no pat down.
And recently SIN. I stopped to take my shoes off and the fellow asked me why was I doing that. So I said my knee replacement. his reply was well they are going to wand you anyway so leave everything on. Common sense. I wish they could get some of that at MCY. I am often sent back to remove some item of clothing even though I plead with them that I am still going to set off the alarm because of my TKR.

I'm the same ! I always seem to get selected for this test. I'd love the know the criteria behind being selected !
