Young-ish pax experiences

When this thread first came up I neglected to post because it looked like everyone was going to be WP, and although I used to fly a lot, travel has been down of late.

However, when I was younger I did travel all over with my parents. Highest I got was Marco Polo Silver (OWR). But have travelled business class quite a bit in the past and once flew first (HKG - SYD).

I generally dress up nice for flights, I want to be comfortable is one reason, but I also know planes can get cold, so trousers are generally the attire instead of shorts. I've never worn a suit in my life though, so never have on a plane.

I have noticed some different treatment to me though because of what I'd assume was age. I have a nice leather jacket that I sometimes wear in colder places and while other business-types have been asked if they wanted their suit-jackets hung up at the front of business class, I had to ask them to take my jacket for me.

Other than that though, I'm treated about the same.

I need to fly more.

Well I was youngish until recently (and I still think I am so there!) and in my 30s I did most of my business travel as a SG in J (never flown F - does it really exist?). Always treated well perhaps because I looked older? Now people think I'm younger than I am - so I aged quickly and then stopped?
Don't wear suits on the plane either. Found Singapore treated me the best of all but QF almost always pretty good. UA and AA pretty 'average' although AA domestically ('first' class) was all right back then.

Just remember: everyone is special.

One thing I did forget to mention - there there were times a few years ago when I felt that I was too old for the airline I was travelling on and given the age and attitude of the crew (this was in Y). Not that I was made to feel unwelcome, but certainly felt that I would have been more welcomed had I been in the mid 20s, and fit a particular social set rather in the mid 30s. I won't mention the airline name as I do believe they have changed since then (somewhat).

Got the occasional stares from other J pax who heard the FAs addressing me as Dr xx_ xx_. Always a good warm-up/ light joke with them as I am not a medical doc.

So as a 25-year-old NB, who flies every so often personally to see friends/family across the country... I want to know how people my age and younger are in jobs that are flying them to WP level, and how I get in on that!

Precicely what I have done. Only 2 people (including me) in the Australasia/South Pacific region that do what I do. Only thing I would like to see added would be the region widening.

Similar for me. There's 4 in the world that do what I do. Myself covering China & East Asia/Pacific, one covering India and Middle East, one for Europe and Africa and one for the Americas.

I'd like to have some occasional trips to other places, Europe or Middle East would be good, but otherwise I travel enough as it is.

Always make it clear in advance if asked, usually by the FAs in J. I often say I may be able to do mouth-to-mouth, amongst other things, LOL

28, WP, do some miles for work but mainly a Self Funded Status Chaser. I get my WP through a DONE every year tied in with a conference I attend and some meetings I tee up overseas. This way some of the trip becomes a tax deduction.

I dress comfortably but for me that means chinos, a shirt and boat shoes. Every time I go long haul I pack PJ's (QF F) in the carry on and change straight away.

As a general rule i seem to see most people in J/F as the type of people who travel a lot and as such know what they want and will just ask if they don't get it... and if you don't get it then you that is bad but don;t think that tends to happen often.

I wear mine as well ! no matter how silly i look, change as soon as we are in the air usually. I always seem to manage to spill stuff on myself when eating in a plane.

I will often change into mine also (QF J) even if flying whY. Stuff what people think! Comfort is my key issue here.

Have to say after my recent J Int experience (and J domestic in the US), don't seem to be treated any better than others in J, prehaps better than most in J on my flight from JFK-LAX.:shock:
Dress code for me, polo-shirt, jeans and slip on shoes if domestic, add in Qantas PJ's if long haul.

I'm mid-30s WP (although I apparently look late 20s/early 30s), and generally get treated the same or better than those around me on any airline that I've flown on lately. I get pretty attentive service, although I'm very low maintenance because all I want to do is to eat and sleep. I have not even pressed the call button as long as I can remember.

As for PJs, they never have my size, so I don't wear them. But crew usually tell me to take it home anyway so that I can give it to whoever I like

The other night I was on QF73 (SYD - SFO) in J on the upper deck. My guess is about 50% of the pax changed into the PJ's after dinner.

I change into my PJ's once I get them. Luckily, the other night, it was before pushback and the guy across the aisle thought I was an "eager beaver" for wanting to change so quickly.

Smart move because the plane was delayed, and as the plane was sitting on its runway, a medical emergency eventuated, and after some pausing and decision making by the crew, we had to head back to the gate to off-load the entire family and their baggage - and this lead to a 2hr delay! Otherwise would have been in my tight skinny jeans (and I'm not even a skinny guy)

Would have been interesting the return to the gate was due to a faulty aircraft and they off-loaded the passengers. I wonder how many people would be wandering around the terminal in the J PJs for a few hours?
